A little beat up, but you can’t get closer to the Syracuse airport. As noted, the Candlewood Suites is right down the road from the Syracuse airport. It was generally clean, if not a little beat up, and it had, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker, and a two-burner electric stove. There was even a little desk. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well. In the opposite direction from the airport were a few decent restaurants and a Wegmans grocery store. Housekeeping only appeared once a week unless clean linens were requested. There was a Holiday Inn express nearby. It looked newer, but it was more expensive and, I suspect, did not have the kitchen amenities. All in all the Candlewood Suites was acceptable, and close to the airport. I would probably stay there again.

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. To start we arrived at the hotel some time after noon as a party of 7, my parents, my two sisters, my partner and my one of my sisters partners and we booked two rooms for one night. Upon walking into the hotel we were greeted to a literal construction site. There was a large tarp on the far end of the lobby which covered up something, presumably renovation work, and the ground had guys working on tiling. We had to walk over a cardboard walkway to get to our rooms. The front desk was staffed by two people, who didn’t have uniforms. Behind the front desk looked disorganized and on the front desk there was a pile of pillows and blankets. The staff at the front desk were very polite and helpful which is possibly the only good thing about this place. The walls of this place all have black streaks and smudge marks and every doorframe had dents and smudge marks near the handles. It looked horrible. First pair of rooms: The room meant for my sisters, me and our partners didn’t have a fold out bed like we had booked. The room was clean, though I didn’t have to time to look around as we had pretty much went straight back to the front desk to get a new room. The room my parents stayed in smelt strongly of cigarettes, and they also switched rooms right away. Second pair of rooms: Upon walking into the room we were staying in the smell of funk but mostly urine hit us. It was so bad it had my sister and I gagging. The tables in the rooms had what seemed to be oil or some residue form cleaning products, the fold out bed/couch looked like it had been there sense the 80s and had yellow stains on its pillows, the walls had splash marks from something and the windows, which we opened to try and air out the place had no screens so bugs could just fly in. The room was disgusting. My parents room was fine and they had pretty much the same problem we did but to a lesser extent and no urine smell. Third pair: The woman who was looking after us was very polite and helpful and was able to get us two extra rooms, one for my parter and I and one for my two sisters and their partner. Our smelt like cleaner and funk when we walked in but wasn’t too bad smelling. At this point we left to go eat and shop and when we came back the room smelt like feet for some reason. My partner and I had just decided this is probably the best we’ll get and stayed in this room. The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. With the state this place is in I have no idea why it’s open for people to stay in. The more I look the grosser it gets. If you want to stay in a place that isn’t gross and doesn’t smell or look like a crack den go across the road at the holiday in.

Avoid this place until it is sold or gutted. I travel a lot, both for business and pleasure, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences of my entire life. Staff has no clue how to run a hotel. The place is filthy and long overdue for renovation. Hallways hadn't been vacuumed in months. A female traveling solo should never be placed on an empty floor at the very end of the hallway, miles away from the elevator. The hotel no longer offers airport shuttle, though it was listed on the website. The front desk didn't have a key to the pantry to make coffee in the early a.m. avoid this hotel until it is sold or gutted.

Tired and poorly maintained On the favorable side the bed was OK, and the bathroom was OK, the water was hot and there were adequate towels. However, the place was tired and poorly maintained. I have never been in a hotel where every door frame along the corridor was bashed-in from where the cleaning staff had crashed into the frame with their cart. (Are the cleaning staff sabotaging the place?) Some of the furniture was chipped, the countertop had burns, top of fridge looked as if acid had been poured on it. While passably clean some corners were grubby. The TV screen looked as if it had been wiped with a cleaning rag. The bathroom extraction fan and the coffee maker did not work. The kitchen faucet only delivered water on one side (not sure if hot or cold). Minimal dishes and silverware (often only one of each item). The price was good compared to most - I guess you get what you pay for!
