50th Wedding Anniversary The Joseph Ambler Inn did a wonderful job making our 50th wedding anniversary party so enjoyable! We were in The Wheelwright Room and it comfortably held the 30-35 guests who attended. We were set up at round tables, making it very easy to talk “across” the table. The food on the buffet (steak, chicken, Mac & cheese, sautéed vegetables, and salad) was delicious and our servers were very attentive.

Awoken at 3:30AM to loud sex & stomping around for hours. Manager said no guests were in that room & refused to apologiz EMPLOYEES WENT INTO THE HOTEL ROOM ABOVE US AT 3:30AM AND HAD LOUD SEX AND DRAGGED FURNITURE AROUND/STOMPED AROUND UNTIL 5:30AM!!!! My boyfriend and I just laid awake for 2-3 hours listening to this racket. I'm also a heavy sleeper and sleep through most things so you know this was loud!! They were not even trying to be quiet at all. When I went to speak with the manager the next morning, I only asked if the guests staying in the room above us would be staying again tonight. He said NO OTHER GUESTS were booked in the entire building the previous night! So who was in the room? We can only conclude it was employees (or ghosts? lol). The hotel manager was absolutely horrendous at customer service. He did not apologize at all and simply said he'd send a maid to go look. The next night was quiet with no issues. We woke up and the next morning I went to the registration desk and spoke to a woman who was extremely apologetic and said she would get me some kind of refund when I asked. She was great. She said she'd speak with the manager. I come back at check out and she says she can't do anything, the manager won't approve it. So I speak to the manager again. He DID NOT APOLOGIZE at all. Not once. At one point I pointed out that he didn't even apologize and he literally said, "I'm sorry that when I went and checked the room it wasn't disturbed." Are you kidding me!!!??? He also heavily implied I was lying when he repeatedly said "I checked all the rooms and none of them were disturbed, no one stayed in that room last night." I said it must've been employees and he refused to acknowledge that. He also said because I went through Groupon that he could not help me and that I would have to call Groupon. He clearly DID NOT want to help me and did not care at all about my experience. This guy should absolutely not work in customer service let alone as a manager. We will never be returning and will be making sure everyone knows of our experience. My parents had wanted to book too but I told them how awful the manager was. I'm just sorry I didn't read the other bad reviews more closely. Oh and the rooms weren't very clean. I saw some stray hairs around and a smear of some sort of oil or gel on the baseboard (lube maybe since we know what the rooms are being used for now). The food at the restaurant was good but for the price, I expected better. That's pretty messed up that employees are using the rooms for sex. And you know that the maids aren't cleaning those rooms before guests check in (unless it was the maid who "used" the guest room).

Good and needs TLC I really enjoy the JAI. It’s charming, unique and has a lot to offer… but this review is going to be about a lack of attention to detail… 1) cleanliness - there were stains on the carpet, air vents that were gross and clearly neglected for a really long period of time, broken blinds, water damage in some common areas of buildings like the Thomas Wilson House, a ton of areas that noticeably needed to be touched up with paint, very worn furniture. All of these things are so easily fixable that it drives me bonkers when they’re just there in plain sight. How much effort does it take to clean or replace an air vent that is noticeably black and covered in thick dust? How much time and effort does it take to touch up a wall full of scuff marks and chipped paint? There is so much potential here, just super frustrating for a place that is 200 a night. 2) training - some of the staff probably needs some retraining. From hostesses to wait staff, my wife and I just couldn’t wrap our heads around some of the communication/lack of communication. Like, we literally had to ask our waiter if there were specials and what the specials were. For some reason, we didn’t get water glasses. Instead our wine glasses were filled with water. Just stuff you wouldn’t expect at a place where we spend 150$ on dinner. We’ll be back, it’s a great getaway. But really wish some of the details were not overlooked as much as they appear to be.

Always delicious meals in a beautiful setting! Get the filet! Always delicious. A local gem for us. Lovely setting. Dependably delicious food. The filet mignon is our go to meal here. So perfectly cooked and so tender. Since we live nearby we have even gotten the filet dinner as take out. We love it here!!
