Beautiful stay - lovely location We stayed for three nights as part of a road trip from San Fran to San Diego. We booked the Huckleberry Hill room which was very spacious with a fabulously comfy bed, fireplace (which we used - Monterey gets chilly even in the summer!!) and massive bathroom. Breakfast was delicious and a little different each day - they catered for Helen’s gluten free as well with nice GF bread - it’s not a massive hotel so don’t expect a huge spread but there was a good selection and it was all very tasty. We don’t get chance to sample the mid afternoon wine and cheese as we were out and about but I did always sneak a cookie on return and they were great!! Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Location is a great spot too.

Excellent attention to detail Everything about this inn is excellent! The staff is friendly and professional. The facility is modern, clean and well maintained. The bed, bedding and pillows are luxurious. The breakfast quiche was tasty, fruit was sweet and the coffee robust. Perfect location in Pacific Grove, but amazingly quiet. I highly recommend it!

Our Go-To Place on the Peninsula We've been back so many times I can't believe I've never updated my previous 4-star review. This is our go-to lodging on the Monterey peninsula for many reasons--but I'll try to pick out just a few: -Location is amazing--right in the heart of downtown and an easy walk to the water. Despite being close to Lighthouse Avenue, we've never heard traffic noise from our room. Being up the hill from the water means you don't hear the majority of the tourist traffic, people with Bluetooth speakers on the coastal trail, etc. -Recent redecorating/remodeling means the Inn feels fresh and bright, without losing the coziness we've always loved. -Breakfasts are generous and flavorful, and we love the variety of seating options throughout the downstairs space -Bedding and pillows are very comfortable. We always sleep well. -Jetted two-person tub (in our favorite Carriage House rooms) is lovely at the end of a long day of walking -Amenities such as always-available tea/coffee/water/soda is a nice touch We've come back so many times (over 15 at this point, we think) that we cannot rate it anything less than five stars.

Good Spirits at the Gosby House..… My wife and I (we live between San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria) made plans to meet 2 of our long-time friends from San Jose. We decided Pacific Grove was better than Carmel and Monterey regarding what you get for the price and location. Since Pacific Grove is known for its Bed and Breakfasts, we chose the Gosby House based on previous reviews. Here are some of the pros and cons from our 2 night stay: Pros: - Location: Convenient. It’s near the small downtown area with lots of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. A short drive away are Monterey (5 minutes) and Carmel (10 minutes). - Exterior/Interior: Mostly fine. The Gosby House is in a Victorian from the 1880s which seems to have expanded to a few separate buildings for a total of 23 rooms. The atmosphere, antiques and creaking floors can be viewed as charming or a dusty reminder of days gone by (see cons). - Our Room: As other people have mentioned, your enjoyment is closely tied to the experience of your room. Our’s - the Stevenson (#5) on the 2nd floor of the main building - had plenty of space for a few nights, a comfortable queen bed, gas fireplace, large screen TV and shower with nice water pressure. It also had some quirks (see below). - Breakfast: Buffet style with high quality items, although the selection was not overwhelming. The size was a cut above what you’d find at a regular motel or hotel. - Happy Hour: From 4-6 PM was a welcome sight after walking around during the day. Quality of the wine won’t knock your socks off, but the cookies (and brownies on 1 of the 2 days) tasted home made. - Dining Room: Cozy…..as if you were a guest in someone’s home. Lots of light streamed through the large windows overlooking the side street where most people tried to park. - Staff: Everyone we met was friendly, gracious and helpful. The Gosby House really excelled in that regard. Lots of smiles. - Housekeeping: Very good. A sign in the room noted we’d get a “refresh” each day and that was accurate. The bed was made (with the same sheets), towels and supplies replaced, garbage emptied and a light cleaning. Cons: - Exterior/Interior: As befits an older property, the floors creaked…a lot. The windows in our room were possible to raise, but a bit dilapidated. Baseboards in the bathroom need to be replaced. - Toilet: The toilet was on a throne…..raised on a pedestal of sorts above the ground (see the picture). Some people may feel like a king or queen, but use caution - especially in the dark at night when mounting or dismounting. - Parking: Tricky. The best parking is along the side street next to the Gosby House, but there’s only so many cars that can parallel park in that space. You can also go into one of many diagonal slots in front of the B&B or across the street, but those have a posted limit of 2 hours. Overall, we’d recommend the Gosby House as a good choice for visitors to the Monterey Peninsula.

Loved Our Stay From check-in through out, our stay was excellent. Nice location, rooms, amenities, breakfast, and staff. Nearby street parking. Hats off to Lis at front desk! She was constantly ensuring our stay was perfect. Mayala was also on top of things. Kitchen and housekeeping teams worked seamlessly to provide a wonderful overall experience. We would not hesitate to stay again!
