Another fantastic stay at Alta I've stayed at Alta Hotel many times and always loved it. On this particular occasion I had a minor surgery (biceps tendon) in San Jose and stayed at Hotel Alta to rest and heal for four days. It was fantastic. The crisp air and comfortable bed and room allowed for great rest and relaxation. The food was immaculate - clean, fresh, flavorful, aesthetic - everything. I swear I never take food photos but I could not resist with almost every single plate (and dessert) they served. The staff was wonderful. The design is timeless, classical, whimsical and just an enchanting place. I will surely be back and telling a LOT of friends and family. I miss it already. Thank you to Alex and all the wonderful staff.

Beautiful unique hotel with excellent food This is a beautiful hotel on the outskirts of San Jose. The hotel was very comfortable and attractive and the staff were very polite and helpful. Our child loved the pool and it was a great place to relax. We didn’t feel like we were even in a big city and the views were beautiful. The restaurant here was amazing, we ate two dinners and two breakfasts and everything we had was delicious.

A Beautiful Boutique Hotel Such an enchanting hotel, worth the 40-minute car ride from SJO. The rooms, as well as the dining room had personality & exquisite views. Each large room had its own floor plan, a plethora of storage space, plenty of towels, bathroom amenities and outlets. Despite having balcony doors, the cool outside air didn’t circulate into the room due to balcony walls blocking any breeze. My room had a ceiling fan, and the AC, although small, worked fine. BTW, I’m extremely fussy about needing cold temperatures (lower than 66 deg. F) to sleep. I did close the bathroom door to make the area needing to be cooled smaller. My daughter complained that her room didn’t have a ceiling fan. The highlight of our evening was the delicious dinner in the beautiful dining room. It had old world charm with white table clothes and seasoned waiters. The waiter knew every ingredient in each dish; a lost art. Remember bread before a meal? It is still served here. Our waiter was very respectful despite the fact that we were disheveled from a long day of tours and travel. We were still in our outdoor clothing. There seemed to be no dress codes. Many guests were dressed elegantly in evening clothes , others with tee shirts, and then some wore clothing native to other countries. Don’t think twice. Make the reservation. Get a room with a ceiling fan. Spend some time visiting the animal rescue a block away and enjoy not being in just another chain hotel room.

No A/C OR Water! I used my Hyatt free night here, otherwise I would have asked for my money back. When we checked in, the concierge informed us the air conditioning in the hotel was broken. We were not informed via email prior to arrival even though the staff in the restaurant said the A/C had been broken for several days. They did supply us with a fan, but it was still too hot. Upon check-in we told the concierge we had to leave very early for an excursion, so technically the hotel knew of our plans. When we woke up the next morning, we discovered we had no water. I went to the front desk and they said that the water pipes are being repaired and the water wouldn’t be turned back on for an hour or so. No one informed us of this either. We sweated all night and then when we woke up, we could not take a shower, use the toilet, or brush our teeth before leaving for a very long day. I understand things happen, but these were not last minute emergencies and the fact that they did not inform us is negligible. How can you call yourself a luxury hotel if you do not provide air-conditioning OR running water? I sent an email to Hyatt regarding this and haven’t even received a response. Very disappointing. I expect more from Hyatt and their partner hotels.

worn out but decent food Only thing that I can give a positive review about at this hotel is the food. Everything else is worn out. AC didn't work in the entire hotel and they neglected to tell us until after we had checked in. Place has great bones but needs a total makeover.
