Overall a great stay I booked a 2 day mystery tour for my friend for Christmas. After a stop off in Beverley we set off to our hotel...which turned out to be The Grand Scarborough, Obviously I'd read reviews because they were everywhere, to say I was nervous doesn't cut it.....but I was presently surprised. There were 6 coaches on our tour and we all more or less pulled up together, to find check in was smooth and efficient, the staff checking us in were friendly and polite, handed us our room key, gave us directions etc The entrance and the staircase were spectacular. There was a games room, cabaret room, various function rooms, restaurant, vending machines, in fact everything we needed. Our room 204, straight opposite the lift, which never caused any noise issues. Our room was clean, warm and had everything we needed. The bedding was white, towels white and we had a spectacular view. The bathroom was clean and tidy with a wonderful hot powerful shower. Evening meal Tomato and roasted pepper soup Very tasty with lovely soft tea cakes Gammon Beef Bourgogne Breaded Pollock Chips New potatoes Veg Gravy I had a slice of gammon, a spoon of beef Bourgogne, chips and new potatoes All lovely and warm, tasty and filling Spotted dick Custard Various cakes I had spotted dick and custard, once again very warm, only thing I like thick custard and it wasn't , it wasn't like water either Overall a good 8 out of 10 Some people were walking past pulling their noses up and not even trying the food so how they complain I will never understand. All the restaurant staff were friendly too Cabaret room We played bingo for some excellent money and prizes, once again some were not amused there was bingo on The cabaret was a singer with 2 dancers, cool brittania???. Everyone in the room all joined in the arm waving and singing and had a good time, more fool the people who don't join in. Sleeping The bed was clean, not the best one I've had but I slept . Breakfast Orange juice Apple juice Tea Coffee Water Toast machines Jam, honey, marmalade, butter, margarine Rice Krispies Flakes Muesli Croissants Fried egg Scrambled eggs Bacon Beans Hash browns Black pudding Mushrooms Once again all cooked and warm. Staff at breakfast were friendly Overall Yes it needs work, some areas need looking at, windows outside need a good clean and paint, modernise bedrooms etc but to me a hotel is a base, it's there for sleeping and eating and if it fulfills that then what else can you ask for. Also remember it's listed so some things cannot be altered. We found every staff member friendly, and happy to help. The only complaint is our bedroom door didn't have a handle, it was a lock which you pulled, unfortunately due to various health issues I couldn't shut it, but my friend had no problem. For a budget seaside hotel in an amazing location it was great

A hidden beauty by the seaside. I recently had a lovely overnight stay at The Grand hotel in Scarborough as part of a mystery weekend. I've visited Scarborough many times before and always admired this hotel from afar. What an exquisite building it is and inside it's history and charm are still very evident. The staff were lovely, all be it some completely rushed of their feet. The lady in the Java lounge does multi tasking on another level!! Serving the bar, making coffees and making meals too. She had a bit of a sharp tone on first meeting saying "You want the team bag left in or not"? but I soon learned she's so lovely and that's just her personality. Our room was clean and basic. It was a little cold in the night but then again it was snowing outside and i was under cosy covers so couldn't complain about. Food was pretty decent, couldn't fault it. The Gammon on the evening and bacon on the morning where delicious. Unfortunately the icy paths around the hotel stopped us wondering too far other than back on the bus the next day. Was nice however just to chill in the grandeur of the hotels atrium with a book and people watch.

Horrible place This hotel is appalling. We stayed for new year and we hated it. Usually we can make the best out of a bad situation but this time we couldn't. Rooms were horrible damp and dirty. Windows really dirty couldn't see out any. Food inedible, worse than prison food, I can only imagine by the way. Staff rude, can't blame them really. They must be really fed up with the amount of complaints every day. Nothing was good in this hotel. We spent the worst new year and couldn't wait to go home. People actually left after half an hour. Checked into premier inn. Public toilets nightmare. No locks, no toilet roll, floors covered in urine. Just horrible. Staff or management must have gave this more than 1 star. Coz it should get zero. In fact this hotel should be closed down by the council. Environmental health need to go in and close it down. Threats to customers who complain is not good customer service. Tour operators not interested, management not interested. I will never do a bus tour again. Some standards must be met. Never again.

Great Stay Stayed for 1 night on a mystery weekend , I have stayed previously, yes the hotel is a old building that can’t be helped, but the rooms we had were clean, tidy and warm, food was ok however the staff couldn’t do enough for us, a special mention to Matthew who made sure we had everything we needed and was very accommodating Thank you Matthew

Beautiful hotel that needs to be loved more. My hubby and I have just returned from a mystery weekend with Caledonian travel there we stayed at The Grand. Our room G2 was spotless but we had no towels. We asked 4 times for them but never arrived. On our 5th ask the duty manager sorted us out and was so so apologetic. The hotel is magnificent but like many other Britannia hotels, this old beauty has been neglected. Staff where all very friendly but in some areas they're just working alone with long queues particularly during the day in the Java lounge/bar. Food was good couldn't fault it. Definitely needs someone gritting the path outside during snowy weather. It was treacherous leaving today.
