Inconsistent staff but exceptional views Didn't actually stay over so I cant comment on the rooms. Stayed locally and wanting to go somewhere with a nice view for a quiet drink I elected to enjoy a drink on the terrace bar of the Grand hotel. The bar man was brusque, dismissive and as a hint if you want ice maybe ask for lots of it-i received maybe 2 or 3 paper thin shards. The duty manager Anne is a delight however, real salt of the earth type. The surroundings were beautiful though and may have to look at giving it a try overnight next time im in Scarborough. Im sure it cant be as bad as the reviews suggest

Poor, run down, disappointed. Hotel is grand, but then you notice how run down it was. Repairs needed throughout. Especially the rooms, lights not working, switch for light broken, bathroom door burst at the bottom and swelled up due to water, damp leak damage on roof and walls, bathroom door handle falling off, also didn’t lock, extraction not working. Window doesn’t open. I reported for repairs and the only thing they done was open the window held open with my hand towel from the bathroom. Could see out the windows thick with dirt, bird poo and webs. I was charged many different prices for the same drinks on a constant basis, and the food was the worst experience of the grand hotel, buffet style for breakfast and dinner, no tea and coffee during dinner, the food was always over cooked, and off very poor quality, of all choices available we both struggled to find something we could actually palette. I would only give food half a star from 5. Hardly any staff and most were very unhelpful. Scarborough is lovely but I would never return to grand hotel again.

A very Grand Hotel, Staff very friendly but needs a little TLC!! Stayed at the Grand Hotel which is a lovely ornate building, the public areas were opulent & very beautiful!! The Blue Lift was hilarious because no one knew if we were going up or down or which floor we were on (Willy Wonkers' elevator was easier to use) ha ha Breakfast was good & plenty of it, rooms were comfortable but needs more renovation & TLC. Our shower/tap was dodgy when we checked into room 43 & we couldnt turn the water off on the 2nd day. Management was quick to respond & found us another room quickly. All staff were friendly & very helpful. Good location for south bay attractions

Pleasantly surprised at room after all the bad reviews if a little dark u get what u pay for better to book sea view Well absolutely beautiful building very GRAND OUTSIDE _ - on entering the reception area does seem to be a smell of stale carpets _ checked in online first so getting keys was very quick & straightforward - room 332 /3rd floor in the circular area - on entering room seemed dark bit depressing really _ bed was clean after I checked, had 2 nice comfy chairs & table large tv _ that worked _ nice lamp & generally ok- however windows were dirty & view overlooked a rooftop area full of debris with one “sammy seagull” sat there on his own, must av been forgotten by the rest of them, cos they are NOT nesting now, in September. BATHROOM - had dripping tap in basin, old fashioned bath & wall mounted old fashioned shower seemed clean enough think a sea view room would probably be better _ - public areas to sit & have a drink are nice u can appreciate the architecture while u sit & enjoy a drink the Java coffee room/bar seems to have weird open times but when open is nice in the large room again with lovely architecture & access to roof terrace with spectacular views of the bay - beautiful at night for photos etc. - oh yes the lady with the pink streak in her hair is lovely, been coming to Scarborough 5 times now & she always seems to remember you & is very nice ___ then there is bingo at 8.30 & entertainment after that - when we were their it was the 3 girls (sorry forgotten their name) but they are very good, lovely _ girls ___ - we didn’t eat here at all went out for breakfast & the whole day so no evening meal either ….. so I cannot comment on that . I know this hotel has bad reviews , but for a cheap basic room & nice places to sit for a drink & entertainment it’s just fine ___ will be back just for the architecture alone __Dee (aka blue bear)
