Delightful property My wife and I needed a beach break and chose St Simons Island, GA. It had been several years since I visited SSI and I had forgotten how charming it is. Rich Georgia traditions, beautiful beaches and a lovely, laid back atmosphere prevail in this lovely coastal hamlet. The Ocean Lodge is one row of houses off the beach and a 3 minute walk to the shore. Wide expanse of beach even at high tide made walking on the beach a wonderful and charming way to burn off a few calories. The hotel has limited food and beverage service but the rooftop bar is outstanding. Lovely views of the ocean and sunset and always a refreshing breeze keeping the temperature comfy. The room (a 2 room site actually) was lovely. It felt like we were on the Amalfi Coast in Italy as there were Italian scenes captured in oil paintings around the room. The kitchenette had a stove top, microwave and a toaster so we prepared several meals in the room. The balcony provided lovely views of people in golf carts or bicycles as well as the beach. We left the sliding doors cracked at night so we could the sound of the sea. Lovely !!! Most of the nice restaurants were a 5 minute drive away but on this small island, it was no problem navigating. Might be a different story during spring break but we were there in early April. We met the manager and she was delightful. The hotel has less than 20 rooms so we never felt like it was crowded. Parking was convenient under the building and covered. We will go back to this property soon. However, it does appear that people from all over the US have discovered it as the migration of northern "snow birds" seemed to be all over the island.

So disappointed — Needs owners that care! We have stayed here many times and continue to come back each year for the SEC golf championship.... in the past we have always had wonderful customer service. This trip has been nothing but disappointments. Our reservations had us booked in the penthouse. We were so excited. When we arrive, we are put in a center room under the restaurant, all evening and until closing we hear the chairs being scooted across the floor and people shuffling. The exact opposite of a penthouse! We are booked for 5 days. After our first night, we came back to our room after watching 5 hours of golf, only to find they didn’t clean our room or refresh towels, etc. I called the front desk, I was informed they don’t clean rooms if you only stay for 2-3 nights I explained we are staying for four nights, they said they would clean our room on Friday. When I came back to our room Friday, it hadn’t been cleaned. I called to find out why, I was told the housekeeping staff didn’t come to work. (So they just ignore any housekeeping!?) In the past there was always beautiful dressers for clothes storage, a comfy couch at the foot of the bed, everything has been removed that would promote luxury. Don’t wait for a bellman to help with your luggage, they don’t offer that service either. The pool and gym have been removed. Every time we ask a question, or request towels, etc. it feels like we are bothering the front desk. This is our 8th year to travel here, our 7th and Last time to stay at Ocean Lodge. It’s too expensive to be treated like an unwanted guest.

Beautiful building and spacious suite Mom and I were lucky enough to get the last room available during a recent family girls trip to SSI. We almost got stuck in a dated condo so when we walked into our room I was so happy with the spacious ice and the nice furnishings. This building itself is very Mediterranean with nice finishes, fountains, murals. I took a bunch of photos here. The room had a kitchen that had everything we needed for snacks and wine. We didn’t cook anything but we could have and the fridge was full size. It’s about the size of an apartment. We sat out on the veranda every night and enjoyed. There are a few spots you can see the ocean and at night if the AC is off you can hear the waves. They have a rooftop restaurant that we have dined at on previous trips. This time they were reservation only. I popped up there by myself one night for a glass of wine. They were super busy with a small menu so I decided not to eat there but came back later for a nightcap as they had live music. It’s an enjoyable space. SSI doesn’t have a lot of hotels in my opinion so I think this is the best place on the island for the price and for a quiet experience.

Needs New Owners My wife and I just stayed in this hotel for our first visit to St. Simmons island. You can see that, at one time this hotel was magnificent, both the facility itself and it’s location. However, it’s also obvious the current ownership has invested NOTHING in the operation and physical well-being of the hotel. There is NO breakfast available whatsoever, no housekeeping service in three days and there was a live electrical outlet detached from the wall in the kitchen. Check-in is 4pm and a $100 charge for earlier check-in. Checkout is 10am! Suggest you stay elsewhere until new owners who know how to operate what should be a nice hotel take over.

Beautiful wedding and honeymoon We were greeted by Evie upon arrival and she took us to our room and showed us around the property. Our room was lovely and very clean with a large balcony. The lodge is adjacent to the beach access area. We road bikes all around the area. We were married on the 4th floor veranda with a view of the ocean in the background. We went one floor up to the bar and had a celebratory cocktail. It was so festive and there was a small band playing. There is no longer a pool on the forth floor. The kitchen has a stove top, but no oven. We had an all around lovely stay!
