Great location for our stay Our first night was a bit of a bust as the electricity kept going off every 10 mins and when I called was told it was like that in every room as part of the hotels energy saver. The following morning upon enquiry we found that it ust have been a fault in that room and were given a new room straight away. This room was fine and we had no issues so very pleased with how this was handled by staff. Paying for breakfast when you check in saves $6 per person. Breakfast selection was good with both cooked and continental items. The room itself was clean and well maintained with plenty of space for cases etc. Location was great for Chinatown, the capitol theatre and a 15min walk to the waterfront.

Loyalty means little Not as good as expected from a Rydges hotel. As an EVT Stays Platinum member, which is their loyalty program, we were left disappointed by the level of attention for our comfort. First of all, the late-night noise from a bar or club on premises that interrupted our sleep in our room was simply unacceptable. Secondly, while we booked a king room and requested the twin bed configuration at the time of booking, and while our loyalty membership entitles us to a room upgrade (if available) we had to accept a downgrade of our room classification in order to receive the required bedding. This was despite an upgrade being available, but we were told to pay an additional fee to get the upgrade. This does not reflect the terms and conditions of their own loyalty program. In the process of working through this on arrival, the front desk staff were less than courteous and missed some key information regarding inclusions in our booking. This made our check-in experience very transactional and not to be repeated. Overall, we felt that we were treated more like a bit of a nuisance to the front of house staff rather than as loyal guests who were implicitly promised a better standard of service. There is plenty of competition for quality accommodation in Sydney at this price point, so we recommend going elsewhere for a proper hospitality experience.
