A terrific experience Such a great location! Situated above some of the best shops and eateries. The staff were excellent and very helpful at every turn. Room was good. We had a family room for a group of friends and it worked well! Bar was good also. Looking forward to returning.

My mistake but I will learn Arrive at 6pm to be told that my check in is 830pm. It appears that the reason they do this is because they are concentrating on the airline clients - fair enough but this is not for me and waiting 2 and half hours to check in was torture. Having stayed at plenty of other hotels in Sydney, I am not going to make this mistake again.

Very friendly staff The staff in this hotel are without exception friendly and efficient. In particular the resturant manager Lynn wentvabive and beyond in making us feel so welcome. We had a problem with a leak in our room which was sorted quickly and professionally. The only thing that stopped me giving a five star review was a suprising lack of storage space for clothes that meant during a week long stay we still had to live out of suitcases.

Disappointment The Rydges is very tired and in much need of a revamp. The bathroom shower had mould, stained tiles and leaked. The door didn't close unless you locked it, door handle did not engage. My biggest gripe with this hotel is the service offered - 'all or nothing'. Offering a $10 credit to forfeit room refreshing is a very strange option which made me feel quite uncomfortable deciding what to do. I didn't want the $10 credit but it made me feel guilty asking for the service. I am used to opting out of having towels changed daily and more than happy to do this, placing the towels, like the sodden bathmat from the leaking shower, in the bath to be changed but hanging the rest of them. Apparently, because we had the cheek to not opt out of having our room made up it meant that it was a 'full' service including towels being changed daily, so unnecessary. The rest of having our room made up is what you pay for when you stay in a hotel, bed made, clean glasses and cups etc. - otherwise you would stay in an AirBnB. Mind you, the towels were changed but the used glasses not refreshed so I am at a loss as to what room made up means. So unfortunately I didn't find the stay to be what I was hoping. We booked the one bedroom king suite but it was very ordinary indeed.
