A hotel with character This is a very charming hotel with a lot of character, and it was interesting just to walk round all the different areas. It's a little worn in places but is clean and comfortable. My room was also full of character and comfy. Great shower with a thermostat. I was with a tour so we had a private breakfast but there was also an area where you could purchase various food items. The food seemed quite expensive, as was the coffee although pleasant. The hotel is in a good location for various places of interest and the metro. I really liked this hotel and would recommend it from the three nights I was there.

Built in 1927 and hasn't been updated since!_ Super cute and quaint little area. When you walk in this hotel, it's really pretty and the staff is very professional and nice, but the rooms, furniture, and curtains are seriously outdated! The first room I was in was spacious, and the view was nice, but the heat didn't work and the water wouldn't get hot. So after trying to get warm, I told the front desk agent about my issue. He sent up maintenance and the maintenance guy brought me a space heater. Next I tried to take a shower and realized the water didn't even get warm, let alone hot. So now I have no choice but to change rooms. (Ughhh_) The 2nd room was way worse. I didn't even call to complain bc I didn't want to be "that customer!" The tub was peeling...and my sheets had blood on them. So now I'm heated! I had to bleach the room down, but Luckily, I was able to take the sheets from the 1st room and change them myself.___ Check out the pictures and see for yourself. These rooms look like your grandmothers house with a funny smell!_ Get a makeover PLEASEEEE!!!!

Good location I visited the Fairfax Hotel on business for 3 nights. My business was very near so location was great. It’s also an excellent hotel for a tourist visit given proximity to the Metro at Dupont Circle. So location excellent. My room, which was a King, was spacious and well appointed. There are I understand very small rooms available. Best avoid those. I was out on business mostly and socialised outside the hotel. My impression was that the hotel amenities such as the bar close early. The hotel is not “buzzing” with activity. In fact it’s very quiet. But that can be an advantage. In Washington I am not going to be hanging around a hotel! The prices available and the packages are very competitive for Washington. So it’s a good choice for business and a great choice for a tourist weekend. The amenity charge is quite common in parts of the US. It’s an annoyance for many. Rightly so. For me it’s just a matter of adding it to the price when doing the comparisons with other hotels. Make the choice based on it being part of the price. It’s a little like Ryanair’s hidden charges!! Perhaps hotels in the US may charge for baggage!!! And towels! And hot water! And room cleaning! This could catch on!! RyanHotel! Joking aside The Fairfax is a very good choice for a stay in the Nation’s Capital.

Great location, Thumbs down for Cancelon Hotel was very nice, walking distance to Metro and Georgetown. Wanted to adjust reservation but could never reach Cancelon on the phone - beware! - so will never use them again. Wine reception offered at hotel was spoiled by rude Market staff who only wanted to provide a "taste" of the one wine poured, so they need to sort that out.
