a hotel with history and character This is a traditional downtown hotel, the only really viable place to stay in the center of Wheeling. It is conveniently located, and has an interesting history. Being an older hotel, it has its quirks and problems, but we found it both conveniently located and a bit charming in a "quirky" sort of way. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. It's not a hotel for everyone, but for us it was a good fit--as we like to find older multi-story hotels in cities with interesting histories and pasts. The river location was an important part of our reason for staying there. The staff was friendly, and Mandy was particularly helpful in giving us a good rate and a good room. The breakfast will not satisfy those people who want something filling at the start of the day, but for us it was adequate.

Absolutely nasty! We picked this girl because it was right downtown and it was certainly a mistake. The rooms was so dirty. There beds were made but that was it. The bathroom for was s as pool because of a steady toilet leak. The shower had a wad of hair next to the drain. There were no towels as anywhere. Don’t waste your money here. We should of stayed somewhere else.

Bugs bugs and more bugs We went to the hotel and dropped our stuff off. We Came back and The wife used toe bathroom and found toilet paper on the floor .We also found that our bag was open, So we continued and she went to the bed and at first sight she found something that looked like small animal dung. So we inspected the bed and found small black dots all over the bed, so we got the phone and used a magnifying app and sure enough they were bugs. We now have to leave of course we want to leave. I talked to the desk clerk and said due to the fact that you booked it threw a third party no refunds. I am in a dispute with my bank awaiting if I will get a refund or not.

Historic, but... The hotel is historic, but it definitely shows. The elevator is interesting in showing all the past historic people who have stayed there. The room was very spacious, but lacked ambiance. There was no one at the front desk for check out in the morning for almost 10 minutes.

Cool history, not cool rooms Wheeling is a city of history and the McClure is one way to experience and live in it. We thought it was cool to be in a hotel where presidents and dignitaries have stayed, but it pretty much ends there. NOTE! They do not have regulated temperature rooms, in the summer months the air works and in the winter only heat, when we got to our room it felt like it was around 80 degrees. The only way to cool the room down was to open the window, which had no screen on it. The road noise is LOUD, so if you’re a light sleeper, expect not to sleep very well. Also, the room itself is very dated and not taken care of well. There were cracked tiles in the bathroom, mold/dirt in the shower and nail polish on the sink. Lastly, they don’t use mattres covers on their mattresses, which I just think is gross :P that would be an easy fix for them which would make the rooms more sanitary. Cool to experience the history, but not worth the price to stay there.
