Great place to stay for High Island and environs I stayed in the Winnie Hampton Inn for several nights and was quite pleased. My room was good in all ways, with a very comfy bed. Breakfast was a typical Hampton breakfast. I wish they would have had a few more offerings, but no other complaints. This is a great place to stay if you are going birding on High Island. One of the best parts of the stay was the fact that there was a great restaurant right next door called Tia Juanita's. They have a big menu with lots of delicious offerings.

Read recent reviews - has gone downhill, disappointing Please see the most recent reviews. They're true. We wish we would've. Unfortunately it was not as good as in past years. The management looked us in the eye and lied to us. The breakfast was not good - and in some cases, took 30 minutes to be restocked. Water for oatmeal. While you're waiting for breakfast to be restocked, you can sit and listen to guests who are checking out complaining bitterly at the front desk and claiming they'll never be back. Yes, the WiFi really does drop every minute or two (unusable). But the lack of integrity from management was the worst part. It's hard to get past that. We have stayed here for years but will choose somewhere else next time. This is far from being up to Hilton standards and does not command the price of a Hilton brand hotel. Dirty in many areas (check out the chandeliers above the breakfast area while you're waiting for food to appear). It could be so much better, but the management is pinching pennies on every customer they can, from all of the paper signs taped up everywhere, to limiting the use of AC in the rooms, to nickel and dime fees. There are other choices in town.

Not a great experience. When I extended my stay one night, the hotel upped the rates they charged. They lied telling me the rates would not change. Added over $40 per night. Refused to help, said it was the website (when I called them directly), out of their hands, et cetera. Refused to work with me and told Hilton.com that I made the change on the website. They seemed nice enough but way too expensive for what they offer. Room was okay but not very clean (the tile floors were slippery with something). Low water pressure and no hot water made taking a shower depressing.

Disappointing We paid about $143 per night after tax. For that price we would expect daily maid service and a good breakfast. No such luck. Over four nights we had maid service only once, despite asking for it daily. Breakfast was sort of cheap and penny-pinching. No butter, no Greek yogurt, old oatmeal very thin like soup, only one coffee urn so when that runs out you have to wait about 15 minutes for it to be replaced. Little cocktail napkins instead of regular size. TV off, some lights off, no music, soiled chair cushions. Tables not cleaned. Other problems: our toilet ran all the time. Have to constantly sign in to get internet. Barking dog in a nearby room. Most Hamptons are well managed. This one seems sub-standard.

Poor condition The reason I rated this a 2 was: carpet in hallways and stairs are dirty. Room smelled musty. Dirty around bathtub, toilets would not flush, Fruit flies around breakfast area. The clerk was very nice and helpful, Tia Juanita‘s Fish Camp restaurant is right next-door, and would highly recommend eating there.
