  • Third Eye Photography
Tell us about your business. I love to capture life in its purest moments. I enjoy photographing people from various backgrounds and learning more about their culture. I think photography is a universal language that we all understand. The key to great photos is to live in the moment. I like to photograph from artistic and unique perspectives. I love to provide my clients with memories that they will keep forever. What's your background like? I have been studying photography for over 12 years, and have almost 10 years of Professional experience. I have worked for various magazines, corporations, and private clients producing marketable and editorial images. I've shot everything from sports to weddings to babies. I just love to be a part of people's special moments. Do you have a studio, do on-location photography, or both? I currently have a studio in Indianapolis and I’m looking for studio space in Houston. I enjoy doing both indoor and outdoor photography. I do a lot of on-location shoots using natural and window light. What photographers influenced you? In what ways do traces of their work show up in your work? Gordon Parks has been a huge influence in my photographic aspirations. I loved his approach to photography and the controversial pieces he would create to get a reaction out of people. He's definitely a pioneer in this industry. I love how he showed the progression of people and America in a time where photography was his choice of weapon. Sometimes we can use art to shine light on sensitive subjects, when we're too deaf to hear the words. I'm also influenced by Ansel Adams photography. I love the landscape images and how he keeps it black and white. It shows tremendous appreciation for the view and quality of work. I'm very much into fine art and try to create it daily. Anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? I'm also inspired by Langston Hughes because I love to write. He had a lot of thought in his poetry and short stories. And with photography, a lot of thought goes into the process of creating a great photograph. One interesting fact most people don't know about your business: We do a lot of work in the community. Very much a part of mentoring our youth and making sure they have creative outlets.

  • Snap One! Photography
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? The beginners class offered here at Snap One! Photography, is not classroom based. We teach the class at various outdoor locations, in which we feel the outdoors gives students freedom to explore a variety of shots. Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring? We cover the ins and outs of your DSLR camera: from aperture, f-stop and shutter speeds; familiarizing each student with these terms and their use. Please bring your DSLR camera and proper materials for note taking. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? After spending three years teaching as the Head photographer of the Artistic Photo Academy and a year of capturing the ever so beautiful European cities, I decided to come back the the States and share my knowledge of photography to a new body of students. What do you love most about your job? I get a pleasure out of the “Thank you’s” after my classes are complete and seeing the joyous smiles of excitement from my students. Knowing that they have taken the first steps towards better photography is enough for me.

  • Pearl Studios Photography
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? Pearl Studios Photography is an award-winning wedding, portrait, and fine art photography studio specializing in capturing life's special moments with a fine art touch. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? I come from an artistic background although I was originally fearful to pursue any type of art as a career. Then, after nearly a decade in the event planning industry, I decided it was time to follow my dreams so I took additional post-bac photography courses and began doing photography full time. What do you love most about your job? We come from a fine art background and love the opportunity to create works of art for our clients that they will share with future generations and cherish forever. What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer? We often have wedding clients tell us that looking through their images brought tears to their eyes and that we were able to capture moments they didn't even realize had happened.

  • Marcell Photography
Kellye Marcell has always loved photography, especially as a means of preserving memories. She strives to capture moments in time that don't feel posed or scripted, preferring to snap shots of folks interacting in a authentic and caring way, whether she's photographing a couple canoodling as they soak in a sunset or kids romping in a park with their parents. To do this, she often shoots on-location at local parks or her clients' homes, so her subjects feel most comfortable in their surroundings. Of course, she capably snaps posed shots, too, for occasions that call for them, such weddings or mime conventions.
