Maxie Makay has studied countless forms of artistic expression, including oil painting, floral design, landscapes, charcoal sketching, jewelry making, and sculpture. But she's not just a student of the arts; she's a teacher of them as well, with a 30-plus-year career that's included developing techniques adopted by the U.S. Department of Education and taught to Harvard professors. She shares her talents at I Paint Today, where she teaches students how to recreate paintings of her own design. Though all classes are beginner-friendly, they are divided into three stages, which means students who are interested in learning more advanced techniques can do so. Snacks and beverages are served at each class, though people are welcome to bring their own non-alcoholic refreshments as well.

As its name implies, Let's Gogh Art is always on the move. The mobile studio delivers art education and entertainment to various venues throughout eastern and central Massachusetts, including schools, festivals, and even Fenway park. Kids' visual-arts classes, camps, and birthday parties entertain children while improving their motor skills, whereas integrated-arts programs use crafts to get little ones excited about science, drama, and dance. Do you provide any materials? What should your students expect to bring?
Students should come prepared to sing a small portion of a song. April will cover everything in the lesson so other than that just bring a great attitude and be ready to work!
What do you love most about your job?
"I love the satisfaction of seeing a student overcome a barrier that they thought they couldn't. In my very first voice lesson my teacher got me to sing a high note that I NEVER thought I'd be able to hit. I walked away feeling like I could sing anything. That's what I want to do for others."
