Understanding that each child learns differently, the staff members of Sylvan Learning Center’s numerous study centers design custom lesson programs. Based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews, the staff works with students to help them firmly grasp basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and how to remember facts without tattooing them to their chests. Programs target students in kindergarten through grade 12 and mold to various learning styles, helping kids feel more comfortable in the classroom. After-school or summer classes can ready high-school students for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or wow college admissions officers with their superior writing skills, exemplary test scores, and willingness to arm-wrestle the school mascot.
At Front Porch Pottery Studio, beginners and aficionados alike can create and decorate the very mugs, bowls, and plates they use to eat and drink. The studio also offers a hand building class where clients learn to use a slab roller, texture clay, and form it into a vase or picture. Clients can then choose a glaze color and the studio will fire and glaze it for them, allowing them to pick up their finished work in three weeks. They also offer all the tools necessary for a seasoned pottery maker to work solo: two electric kilns, a slab roller, extruder, wedging tables, VL whisper wheels, and a pug mill. Master potters can spin their own decorative vase or mold the clay into personal busts of David Hasselhoff.
The Hope Center for Autism is a public charter school that teaches prekindergarten through second grade and empowers children with autism. The center’s curriculum incorporates applied behavior-analysis techniques and low staff-to-student ratios to ensure each student receives a comprehensive education. Children also undergo anywhere from 2 to 30 hours of therapy every week in a one-on-one setting, with each session tailored to their individual needs and goals.

The staff members at Sylvan Learning's numerous study facilities understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don’t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan’s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. After-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.
In the late 1970s, career educators Eileen and Raymond Huntington opened the first Huntington Learning Center in Oradell, New Jersey. Their goal was to take an individualized approach to education, adjusting instructional tactics according to each student's particular set of needs. Their success in helping K–12 students prepare for exams and improve grades and study skills quickly spawned franchises across New York and New Jersey.
Today, the certified Huntington tutoring staff utilizes testing and rubrics for assessing each child's skills, academic needs and potential for growth. The teachers even note the student's behavior in different testing and academic situations to craft a methodology sensitive to each child's learning style. Teachers also adhere to the company's code of ethics that stresses professionalism and confidentiality, encouraging pupils to improve their grades honestly through dedicated study rather than shortcuts.
