Equipment: Johnny G Spinner/Keiser cycles, aqua jogger belts, water aerobic equipment Students should bring: Water Average class length: Two hours Number of Staff: 1–5 Class location: Outdoors only Established: 2011 Registration required: No Good for beginners: Yes Guests allowed: Yes Parking: Parking lot Q&A with Saidah Kinerman, Instructor/Owner Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated? I offer a variety of different exercises to meet all fitness levels. I believe the most important thing is self efficacy. It is my goal that everyone participating in class will be able to complete at least one exercise well. There is also a lot of peer support from other class members and encouragement from the instructor. Sweating to the oldies is acceptable, but sweating to the blues less so. Do you find that certain styles and genres of music generate more intense workouts? Definitely, most of the music that is played in class is pop and today's top hits. Mainly upbeat current tunes. Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover? This class combines cycling with core routines and high intensity water workouts. I relocated from California where fitness fusion is common. This class is offered in the world-renowned Piedmont Park in Midtown Atlanta, is convenient, and offers a total body workout.

  • Urban Dare
The Savannah Beerathon mimics a marathon with a tongue-in-cheek lineup of 26 bar hops, each location pouring a different featured craft brew. The Savannah Morning News profiled the event, which taps into the city's burgeoning craft-beer culture for an eclectic tasting tour. Each venue boasts beer specials—though the brews themselves are not included with admission as per Georgia law. The suds range from Left Hand milk stout and Blue Point toasted lager to Sam Adams' Octoberfest. Participants meet new friends and new beers throughout the day, raising a glass to good taste and soaking up the sounds of live bands and DJs. The organizers encourage the wearing of team outfits and welcome designated drivers and sober pack-horses to join their friends at the venues.

  • MuckRun
On a remote farm in northeast Georgia, hundreds of people are lining up to slog through mud and scamper over obstacles for 5 kilometers. Some may say they’re crazy, and some may say they’re being pursued by a pack of hungry toddlers, but they’d both be wrong—these brave hundreds are athletes dashing through the MuckRun obstacle course. Meandering through forests, swamps, and creeks, the 5K MuckRun course tests runners with obstacles such as mud slides, hay-bale pyramids, and a human spider web. At the conclusion of the race, an awards ceremony bestows prizes upon the victors, and live tunes and food nourish the ears and mouths of each contestant. Just like at an all-company meeting, there's also a prize for the person with the best costume. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia.

  • Cave Spring Road Race
This June, the 33rd annual Cave Spring Road Race once again sends runners, joggers, and walkers scampering across the campus of the Georgia School for the Deaf. The area's dense forestry envelops participants in lush greens as they trot their way around the certified course, either as part of the 5K race or the one-mile fun run. But the day doesn't end at the finish line or when the winner gets caught with bottle rockets in his shoes. Participants and their families can stick around to eat a continental breakfast and browse the arts and crafts festival in Rolater Park. Or they can explore the town's famous cave, or check out one of the largest swimming pools in Georgia, a 1.5-acre lake shaped like the state.

  • Soul Survivor
Throughout the year, Soul Survivor gathers up to 200 players at a time to re-create the zombie apocalypse. Things begin innocently enough in the fictional town of Baker's Creek. But when a zombie infection is introduced, the inhabitants—all clad in gleaming white T-shirts—must scatter to outwit and outrun the ever-growing horde. Zombies pass the infection by marking players with their "blood." The newly turned then report to the cabin for a zombie metamorphosis, which involves putting on makeup and memorizing Night of the Living Dead. One lucky survivor walks away with not just a clean tee, but a cash prize to boot.
