Some of our favourite places for kayak rental include:
If you're getting in a kayak, it's best to wear something comfortable that you don't mind getting wet. Shorts and a T-shirt, or swimwear, are ideal. Jeans or long pants should be avoided, as they can be uncomfortable if they get wet.
You'll also be wearing a life jacket to keep you safe throughout your trip. And remember, always wear sunscreen. The glorious California sun reflecting off the water's surface when you're out at sea can increase the risk of sunburn.
The best place to launch your kayak off the coast of La Jolla is Avenida de la Playa, one of the most sheltered areas of the beach and a great place to enjoy a bit of serenity on the water.
Here you'll be able to slowly edge into the water on a gentle slope, without too much wind or swell, making it a great place for beginners. Kayak tour operators often start off here because the smooth waters are ideal for those who aren't used to it. Guided tours will usually bring your kayak here to start off your trip because of the smooth waters, making it perfect for beginners. Once you're in the water here, you won't be far at all from the famous sea caves.
Generally speaking, you'll pay between $30 and $70 for kayaking tours around La Jolla, depending on the package you choose and whether or not you want a guided tour.
