Irish Oaks designs its lesson programs to produce well-rounded, educated riders. The facility starts with students as young as 7, teaching newcomers tacking, grooming, bathing, and other fundamental horsemanship skills. Old hands learn championship-caliber techniques for the show ring. No matter their experience level, though, every rider enjoys access to Irish Oaks' roster of amenities. Stretched across 55 acres, the facility boasts a covered arena, an all-weather arena with a full jump course, and trails that snake across the property and spill over onto the adjacent 260-acre farm.
More than 20 years ago, Dr. Kevin Sharp started honing the skills that earned him the North Carolina Chiropractic Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. As a fellow in the International College of Chiropractors, Dr. Sharp uses a hands-on adjustment modality—developed by Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead—alongside electrical-stimulation therapy and digital foot scanning. These technologies help Dr. Sharp tailor his treatments to each client while singling out which exact piggy cries, “wee, wee, wee” all the way home. With his guidance, and the help of custom orthotics and a host of online educational resources, clients can continue to heal at home or while driving a dune buggy.
Chiropractor and acupuncturist Dr. Susan Sykes works alongside her staff to resolve patients' medical conditions using a wide range of techniques, including traditional adjustments, sacro-occipital technique, and BrainCore neurofeedback. In addition to her experience with homeopathy and nutritional counseling, Dr. Sykes is also certified to practice chiropractic acupuncture.
Drs. Kingery and Kingery and their staff have been tending to teeth's cosmetic, orthodontic, and general-dentistry needs for more than 25 years. During the initial cleaning, a dental hygienist removes tartar, plaque, and barnacles from each tooth before delivering customized instructions on gum-nugget maintenance. The dental dynamos fend off oral complications with up-to-date technology, including digital x-rays that spy on chompers' health and scan classified, under-gum secrets. Digital x-ray technology works faster and uses 90% less radiation than the traditional x-ray specs medical professionals used to order from comic-book catalogs. Like many blockbuster movies, the exam, x-rays, and cleaning process takes about 90 minutes if no one presses a pause button.
When not fixing smiles inside Dental Center of the Carolinas, Dr. Andrew Kelly served as a deputy examiner for the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners. A Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, and Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology, he dispenses his extensive skills and experience at free dental clinics and whittles toothbrushes out of wood on the weekends.
