  • The Art of Dance
Kathleen Catallo is no stranger to the graceful flourishes of ballroom dance. In fact, she’s spent more than two decades of her life perfecting them at the professional level. At The Art of Dance, Catallo has drawn on this experience to create a Marriage Enrichment Through Dance course tailored specifically to couples. As they learn fundamental ballroom steps in these sessions, spouses strengthen their relationships and have fun instead of spending another Friday searching for doubloons in the junk drawer.

  • Cadence Cyclery of McKinney
Emulating an atmosphere similar to classic bike shops of a bygone era, Cadence Cyclery of McKinney, now with a second location in Highland Village, blends seamlessly into the historic arts-and-culinary district that surrounds it. Tucked inside an industrial space bordered by exposed bricks, the shop plays host to more bikes than a BMX champ's hoarding shed, including bikes from brands such as BH Bikes, Cervelo, Giant, Pivot Cycles, Scott, Yeti, and Alchemy custom bikes. Two-wheelers span the spectrum of biking needs, from mini roadsters for kids to streamlined cycles primed for professional racing. Once patrons have tracked down their ideal bicycle, they can keep it gliding smoothly with regular tune-ups. On Saturday mornings, riders of all quad strengths meet at the cyclery and embark on a 30-mile group expedition around downtown McKinney and the surrounding countryside, socializing and dropping a trail of rusty spokes to guide them home.

  • Stolen Bases
The cracking sounds of line drives and fly balls spread throughout Stolen Bases's indoor facility, where baseball and softball players can hone their game. Eight batting cages challenge athletes to step up to home plate and hit pitches hurled by automatic machines, real-life players, or enchanted bobble heads posing as real-life players. Visitors can train on their own or request help from Stolen Bases's baseball and softball instructors who guide swings during private lessons and camps. The faculty includes former collegiate and professional players, such as Fontella Jones, who pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers. Away from the batting cages, an onsite pro shop stocks enough apparel and equipment to make any baseball mascot molt with glee. Staffers can help customers select gloves and bats from brands such as Easton, Rawlings, and Rip-It.

  • Oak Hollow Golf Course
In 2010, Oak Hollow Golf Course completed work on a large renovation project that made it virtually unrecognizable to anyone who played the course in years prior. Amenities added to the par 70 layout include a 7,300-yard clubhouse—site of the bar and grill as well as an indoor practice room with launch monitors—and more than 150 trees spread throughout the course's 6,736 yards. Players having difficulty keeping shots straight or creating a scorecard worth laminating can work on their strokes on the extensive practice facilities, such as the 40-bay driving range, 8,000-square-foot practice green, and chipping green.
