Stott Pilates is a contemporary take on the original Pilates method. It incorporates modern innovations in exercise, with extra attention paid to spine and joint health. For example, students may perform particular moves with a curved back in order to restore the spine's natural shape and keep muscles balanced. Despite these differences, Stott Pilates boasts many of the same benefits as its predecessor: leaner muscles, improved strength and flexibility, and a stronger core. At Om Sweet Om Pilates Center, practitioners learn this method in mat classes, private lessons, and equipment classes, which incorporate accoutrements designed to intensify the effects of Pilates.
In small classes limited to 10-15 students, the instructors of Body Rituals support their exercisers as they crush challenges and recuperate from injuries in a variety of engaging class styles. Due to the small class sizes, students are given personalized attention, ensuring that beginners gain a solid foundation in proper form as they progress into body-bending machines. Advanced students are catered to as well in classes such as body sculpting, barre, Zumba, and Pilates, with a schedule of morning and evening classes.
At Bourne Pilates & Fitness, both experienced and novice Pilates students can tone up and get a great workout under the watchful eye of experienced Pilates instructors. Private, semiprivate, and small group classes ensure that each student gets the amount of personalized attention desired as they boost balance, recover from an injury, or otherwise meet their fitness goals through Pilates. The spacious studio uses spring resistance with top-of-the-line Pilates reformer equipment, and instructors follow Stott Pilates methods—a contemporary approach to the original Pilates exercises.
The svelte Sylvia Favela, mastermind behind My Pilates Studio, developed a fitness routine that helped her eliminate the excess pounds brought on after the birth of her son. Delighted by her success and eager to share her new energy with others looking to drop pounds, Sylvia started My Pilates Studio. She mixes cardio moves, jumping jacks, and sprints in combination with the program's traditional core-toning exercises. Her program is targeted very precisely to help clients slim down enough to hide inside a lamppost.

Xtend Barre's founder, Andrea Rogers, a former professional dancer who had toured with such celebrities as Enrique Iglesias and Aaron Carter, turned to Pilates after slowing down her frenetic pace. She discovered that it helped her rehabilitate her dance injuries and kept her in shape, so she became a Pilates teacher. Yet, planks could not supplant plies in her heart.
"I started to crave the creative element of dance in my workouts again," Andrea told Shape magazine, "so I approached the owner of the studio where I worked with the idea of a class that combined Pilates, dance, and barre."
After playing around with the exact fitness formula for a while, she hit upon a method that enhanced flexibility, improved balance, and strengthened the core. She called her method Xtend Barre, and it quickly became a press favorite.
Today, Xtend Barre has hundreds of classrooms in countries around the world and teachers devoted to leading students through the moves that Andrea developed. Of course, there are variations of her original workout, too, including ones that incorporate props and ones tailored to athletes injured on the field or while dumping Gatorade over their coach's head.
