The setting sun paints streaks of warm colours across the sky and the CN Tower looms over the harbour as a group of kayakers paddle toward a secluded island. This juxtaposition of city and nature sets the tone for Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak Centre's expeditions into Lake Ontario. During tours, their guides transport groups from the urban jungle of Canada's largest city to the natural environs of 13 Toronto Islands. Whether by kayak, canoe or stand up paddleboard, the tour leaders blaze a watery path toward lagoons and sanctuaries teeming with wildlife, such as egrets, turtles, and turtles doing egret impressions. Tours also pass by historic man-made sights such as The Gibraltar Lighthouse built in 1808.
In addition to guided excursions, Harbourfront Canoe and Kayak Centre's experts schedule both private and group lessons for each of their watercraft types. They can help students obtain certification, or learn invaluable skills such as kayak rescue.

Nomad Adventures folds fishing and paddling into one well-rounded experience. Established in 2007, the company specializes in guided fishing trips into Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, and other local waterways, including the Niagara. The main reason Nomad can cover so many different waterways: its use of kayaks, which are able to squeeze into tight places much easier than boats. In the spring, the company's guides lead anglers onto the Great Lakes aboard these kayaks to track down brown trout, salmon, steelhead, and more; starting in July, they chase after trophy smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.
Wolf Den Expeditions has two missions: get people on a boat, and get them into the wild. Its team leads regular expeditions around Algonquin Park and Georgian Bay, taking patrons by canoe and sea kayak to explore the local waters. These waterway tours stretch for three to six days, giving adventurers ample time to spot wildlife or learn to whittle their oar into a piccolo. Paddlers can also expect to encounter breathtaking natural landmarks, such as the 30,000 glacier-sculpted islands that dot the bay, or the rugged shorelines and hiking trails that crisscross the parks.
For an adventure that involves inner and exterior exploration, try one of Wolf Den's yoga outings and retreats. These programs blend canoeing or sea kayaking activities with yoga sessions at the beginning and end of the day, building both muscles and mental clarity.
