  • Zoo Atlanta
Mei Lun and Mei Huan were born in 2013 to much excitement—the cubs are the only the second pair of twin giant pandas born in the U.S. The zoo also boasts the largest collection of gorillas and orangutans, though kids will likely be more impressed by the giraffe exhibit, where they can help feed the long-necked mammals their leafy lunch.

  • Autrey Mill Nature Preserve
While the first Europeans were making their way towards North America, the Creek and Cherokee tribes were fighting for control of the lands that now make up Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. This bit of history is just a part of the 400 years of heritage now on display in the park. Granted protected status in 1988, the park preserves the story of these rugged wilds and the hearty residents that once called them home. In addition to honoring Native American heritage through exhibits and educational programs, the preserve also maintains a Heritage Village memorializing the farmers who tilled the land at the turn of the 20th century. Two miles of trails connect these sites, letting guests commune with more than 110 species of wildlife spread across shady woods and creekside shoals.

  • Xtreme Xperience
Built into the rippling foothills of Appalachia, Atlanta Motorsports Park hosts a world-class road course designed by famed Formula 1 architect, Hermann Tilke. Tilke honored the natural landscape with his 2-mile racetrack, weaving high-speed straights amongst steep elevation changes. He even included two signature turns, inspired by Belgium's Spa-Franchochamps and the 'Carousel' turn found on Germany's fearsome Nurburgring. Track members can test their private vehicles' mettle on the track at any time, pushing engines to their limits on professional-quality pavement. In addition to its professional-grade road course, the venue is also home to a world-class karting track. Open to all visitors, the kart course runs almost a mile, and features a stunningly-steep 43' in elevation changes built to Commission Internationale de Karting's Level A standards. The owners invite visitors to bring their own karts, but guests can always rent vehicles from the fleet. Each rental comes with a complementary helmet and driving suit to protect the driver from whipping winds, harsh sunshine, or point deductions in race's fashion show portion.

  • Yule Forest Pumpkin Patch
Autumn might be the busiest time of year at Yule Forest Pumpkin Patch, but the farm actually celebrates all the seasons with U-pick events throughout the year. In summer, families come to the farm to pick sweet blueberries to eat raw or bake into pies; in winter, they head to the tree farm to pick a perfect fir, cypress, or pine for their holiday decorating. Of course, Yule Forest is a pumpkin patch first and foremost, and saves the best fun for fall. Pumpkins ripen on the vine and wait to be turned into jack-o'-lanterns or shot from the farm's pumpkin cannon. Hayrides escort riders around the grounds and to the fun zone where they'll find activities such as slides, horse races, and an obstacle course. Between stints at the talking chicken show or the pick-your-own sunflower garden, kids and adults can drop by the petting zoo to swap tin can recipes with the goats, or head to the bee house to learn about nature's busiest insects. Of course, no autumn adventure would be completely without a bit of spine-tingling fun, which is why Yule Forest Pumpkin Patch also hosts a haunted house attractions on weekends after dark only.

Tours of their farm, Southern Estate Alpacas, begin with Alpaca 101 lessons, where you learn about the origins and uses of alpacas. Next, you can visit with the herd to feed them out of your hand, pet their soft wool, or get a Facebook photo with a baby dwarf goat. Alpaca petting zoos are a good option for families with small children, since they have no horns or hooves and only a bottom set of teeth, so they can?t bite. After you?ve met your new best friend, head to the farm store to get a scarf or sweater made from his exquisite wool.
