Welcome to WordSmitten.
Are you ready to finish your novel or your memoir about your weird uncle? Dust off your fiction or non-fiction manuscript and drag it, like a barely breathing cat, to a WordSmitten Writing Workshop. And, learn to write professional query letters to literary agents.
RK Music’s instructors break their teaching philosophy down into three core components: building an emotional connection to music, honing technical mastery, and encouraging students to share their music with others. They live up to this code with every lesson, whether they’re mixing technical exercises in with fun songs, holding students to a practice schedule, or fostering social musicality through recitals, bands, and kazoo flash mobs. Instructors bring a breadth of experience to their lessons, collaborating with everyone from current students to professional performers. They also break out of the traditional one-on-one teaching structure, hosting both group sessions and summer rock camps, which give kids the experience of performing in their very own band.
For the past two decades, Brent Beatty has been singing, songwriting, and performing for fine fans of blues and rock 'n' roll. With two CD releases and more than 100 written and co-written songs under his belt, Brent now turns string slappers into educated strummers after a few short lessons. During each session, students develop technique, theory, and songwriting skills in addition to producing an in-session recording for practical study at home. This tangible reference point promotes an abbreviated learning curve for hardworking students who, if they so chose, may perform in Brent's semi-annual Barn Yard Jam recital. Give the gift of guitar appreciation to a young musician, or reenlist yourself in the nation's guitarmy, where every battle of the bands is fought with honor, discipline, and occasional pyrotechnics.
Under the tutelage of the highly experienced instructors at Metal Shop Music, fledgling strummers will glean useful guitar-playing how-tos during a pair of half-hour private sessions. Students bring their own electric or acoustic palettes on which to paint their musical pictures, and can explore any style, such as classical, Southern rock, or a capella. In the store's music room, beginners meet with local musician Matt Brown, who teaches modern pick style and methods for soothing your instrument when it gets stage fright. Intermediate to advanced scholars will study with chord-shredding master Kirk Andrews as he leads players through tutorials on how to play lead, increase their accuracy, and survive in the unfriendly wilderness of harmonic minor scales.

Q&A with the Studio Director
What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
South Tampa Center for the Arts was voted 2013 Best Theatre Group on Tampa's A-List.
We are also one of the only Performance Theatre Groups for students ages 4?14 in South Tampa.
We obtain the rights through Music Theatre International to produce two musicals each year.
Some of our credits include Disney productions such as Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, Little Mermaid, and Peter Pan.
What special training do you or your staff have?
Our faculty members have college degrees related to education and/or the arts. Also, our program has an educational-based approach and our mission is "Enriching Students' Lives with Education through Entertainment".
As the old adage says, "Stuff happens." What training do you and your staff have to stay ahead of the unexpected?
All of our theatre faculty members are currently working professionals in the field, so aside from teaching at South Tampa Center for the Arts, they have contracts with local and out-of-state theatre companies.
Our students and their parents have the opportunity to see their instructors performing on stage throughout the year and have expressed how much they enjoy being able to do so.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Our largest and most popular program is Performance Theatre. However, these same students often enroll in the private piano and voice lessons we offer, as well as our dance classes.
We also established Glee Club back in 2010 and it remains a popular program also run by our theatre director.
Music Matters is the premier destination for music lessons and summer Music, Drama, Singing & Rock Camps. We also offer a great selection of guitars, music books & supplies. We corrently have over 400 kids and adults taking lessons on a variety of instruments - including piano, guitar, drums, singing, violin and more.
