  • Trillium Brewing Company
Trillium Brewing Company: A User's Guide Farmhouse-Style Brewery | Smooth, Balanced Ales | Growlers and Bottles Only | Crafted from Local Ingredients Order Suggestions Trillium Farmhouse Ale (ABV: 6.6%): a study in simplicity whose nose of spice and pepper slides smoothly into flavors of fruit and even more pepper Pot & Kettle Oatmeal Porter (ABV: 7.5%): first debuted at the owners' wedding, this black elixir remains surprisingly light thanks to its roasted malts and charred fruit Wake Robin Red Rye Ale (ABV: 7.4%): malt and fermentation-derived flavors evoke those of plum, apricot, and earthy spices How It Works: There are no tables, no seats, no snacks, and no TVs. At least not yet. Although an expansion is in the works for Canton, right now the Fort Point location is the place to go to pick up your beer as straight from the vat as you can get it. Lines are available for bottles and for 64-oz. growlers. When to Go: It hardly matters. Whenever you swing by, you're almost surely going to find a line. The beer is just that good. While You Wait in Line: Check out the farmhouse-style details—a bar made from reclaimed wood, curtains made from painter's canvas drop cloths, wooden crates that were at the owners' wedding. Inside Tips Be prepared to trust your instincts, as there are no samples. If you visit on special bottle release days, you might be able to try the brewery's double IPA. Just be prepared for a longer line than usual. Rants and Raves "Trillium has quickly established itself as the best brewery in the state." – Boston Globe One of the Best New Brewers – RateBeer "Trillium is a reflection of this moment: of the community, of the native yeast and local grains, of the supporters who believed in the vision of a farmhouse-style brewery in Boston, and of the people who have willed a brewery to life." – Medium

  • Downeast Cider House
Four Things To Know About Downeast Cider House Downeast Cider House co-founders Ross Brockman and Tyler Mosher came up with the idea of a cidery during their senior year in college. Post-graduation, they moved to the family orchard and started picking apples and pressing cider by hand, until they’d created a hard cider they could be proud of. Today, you can find the ciders at bars, restaurants, and liquor stores all over New England. Read on to learn more about Downeast Cider House: They’re serious about all-natural ingredients. Whereas other hard ciders might use artificial sweeteners and juice from concentrate, Downeast is committed to using only fresh-pressed juices and natural ingredients. What’s more, they use local apples to support local farmers. Their offerings are always changing. Downeast has ciders that are available year-round, but they also rotate seasonal flavors throughout the year. Favorites include autumn's Pumpkin Blend, spring's Hard Honey, and summer's gluten-free, hard-cider-based Lemonade. They have a sense of humor. They may be serious about making good cider, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have fun, too. After a recent New England Patriots victory, Downeast went a little viral by printing “Brady Wins” alongside the expiration date on the bottom of its cans. They’re cider-makers, not interior decorators. Brockman and Mosher will be the first to tell you: don’t expect a beautiful brewery when you come to visit. Downeast is a working cidery, and it looks (and smells) like one. That said, when you visit, you’ll find welcoming hosts who offer free tours along with free samples from the tap.
