About Kirkwood Knittery

Staffers at Kirkwood Knittery happily direct shoppers to a colorful collection of knitted sweaters, hats, and wraps; however, they're not for sale. That’s because staff members would rather teach customers to make the garments themselves during classes aimed at beginning and intermediate knitters. Sessions, which typically meet in four one-hour segments or two two-hour segments; cover skills such as basic stitches, circular knitting methods, and crochet patterns; and culminate in the creation of a scarf, pair of socks, or knitted umbrella. Before classes, students can peruse the shop’s selection of yarns to choose an attractive skein whorled from international wools, organic cottons, or rare fibers.

I am so pleased with my first class and am looking forward to part 2 next week! Brooke is very patient and has excellent communication and teaching skills. Within 5mins, I was able to walk myself through the steps of the knit stitch and even correct errors! Brooke was right there with me, but allowed me the opportunity to think through the steps I had just learned instead of jumping in and telling me. I feel this was very important for me in understanding WHAT I'm doing and WHY, so that I can problem solve on my own going forward. This is such a fun new skill I'm learning and I can't wait to see all that I can create. I'm also planning on joining in on some of the social knitting events (Thurs nights)!
