Brandy Wyrick at Hair By The Square

The sound scissors make as they slowly but confidently close over a thatch of hair is as comforting to Brandy Wyrick as a child’s security blanket. She first heard that sound at a young age as her mother ran the gleaming edges through clients’ manes in her salon. Brandy spent weekends playing with mannequin heads as a child, later graduating to real heads at Toni & Guy Hairdressing Academy. Today, she recreates those same snipping sounds inside Hair By The Square and during any open mic event she comes across.

The Groupon Guide to: Choosing a Jersey Number

Professional athletes are faced with many difficult decisions, such as choosing to which charity to donate their entire salary or settling on a jersey number. If you get picked to play big ball with the big boys and big girls, use these helpful tips for selecting your definitive digits:

  • Choose a number that has meaning to you, such as the number of teeth inside your mouth.

  • Go with a number that gives you an interesting story to tell the sports reporters whenever they ask you "Hey champ, could you tell us why you picked that uniform number again?" This number could be the amount of people you'd kiss if you had no respect for personal boundaries.

  • Pick a random number, such as 9 or maybe even 10. It's up to you as long as it's either 9 or 10!

  • No one has ever gotten away with a three-digit number … yet.

  • Do you have a lucky number? If you don't, you should choose one now because you'll need one—most professional athletes have incredibly short careers and aren't qualified to do anything else.

Did Shaquille O'Neal choose number 32 because that was the number of teeth he had at the time? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
