Students learn how to use materials found in their surrounding to fashion tools and useful items that could replace campers' modern conveniences. Topics covered include how to make stone blades, natural rope, and natural glue. Classes are limited to no more than 30 people and are appropriate for all ages and skill levels, though they are geared toward teens and adults. California Survival School provides all materials and tools necessary for the course, though participants should bring a lunch, snacks, water, and, if desired, means for taking notes. See the school’s upcoming events for dates and locations.
California Survival School
The instructors at California Survival School impart decades of wilderness-survival know-how during outdoor, hands-on courses. Participants prepare themselves to live self sufficiently off the land using both modern and primitive techniques, which can come in handy when lost in the woods or the year 1412. During the Core Survival Skills Adventure Clinic, up to 30 students spend five hours learning to create fire using only sticks, build shelters with natural materials, purify water, and feed themselves off the land. The Ancient Artisans Workshop teaches novices how to fashion crude implements from scratch with materials found in nature, and how to use them while out in the wilderness. California Survival School also offers team-building workshops and private events.

“It was a wonderful experience, definitely worth the money I'd do it again in a second. Tips would be to bring a camera with video function the day is filled with information and it's easier to remember it all if you have something to re-watch after the day is done and refresh your memory. ”
