One-hour classes run on Tuesday and Wednesday nights with children’s lessons at 5:30 p.m., all ages and intermediate lessons at 6:30 p.m., and adults and advanced lessons at 7:30 p.m.

Balance. Strength. Control. These are the skills that Sensei Ruiz teaches during his karate lessons at Charlotte Shukokai Karate. Shukokai is a form of shito-ryu karate, a traditional okinawan style that incorporates quick movements and surprisingly hard strikes with a double hip twist. Combining his own 20 years of experience studying under Sensei Heriberto Sepulveda in New York and his experience as a martial-arts instructor and middle-school science teacher, Ruiz leads traditional-style classes for students of all levels.
