The Issue: High Cost of Family Portraits

Taking holiday photos is an enduring tradition, but for many, the holidays also represent a time of year when budgets are stretched to cover additional heating and electric costs and holiday expenses. For these families, a holiday photo can be just beyond their financial reach.

The Campaign: Funding a Portrait Session, Prints, and Frames

For every $10 this Grassroots campaign raises, Help-Portrait can provide a portraiture session with six prints and two picture frames for an individual or family in need. The pictures will go to people who could not otherwise afford to have a professional portrait taken. The sessions will take place at an annual event, held this year on Saturday, December 8, where professional photographers donate their services.

About (Grassroots) Help Portrait

Photographer Jeremy Cowart founded Help-Portrait to encourage photographers to give back to their communities. This collective includes 6,000 photographers and 5,000 volunteers, including assistants and makeup artists, who seek out people in need and encourage them to have their photographs taken. The professionals donate their time and skills to create portraits for individuals and families in need during an annual event on the second Saturday in December—in time for the holidays. Last year, the organization captured 67,927 portraits for people who could not otherwise have afforded them.
