El Hefe

El Hefe bills itself as the "Super Macho Taqueria," a claim it backs up with behemoth menu items such as bacon-wrapped hot dogs topped with charro beans and the Bulldog-garita, a 32-ounce margarita spiked with a 7-ounce bottle of beer. The rest of the menu features scratch-made dishes with delightfully unexpected ingredients: grilled shrimp tacos are sweetened with coconut slaw, and a ceviche tostada is layered with slices of asian pear.

Those more interested in El Hefe's liquid offerings can choose from nine specialty margaritas, including an hermanos pistola with rock-candy syrup, fresh mint, and cucumber. There's also VIP bottle service, as well as seven booths with personal table taps. The taps can be filled with beer or liquor—Pacifico, 312, and Cabo Wabo are a few of the options—and the booths are equipped with LCD screens that let guests and staff monitor how much has been consumed. The taps beat spending time running back and forth to the bar, particularly if you've come to catch a Hawks or Bears game on one of the 20 HDTVs.

LOVIN' the lunchtime tacos. Each one packed with flavor. Tangy and sweet.
