Fairmont Hotel Two Blocks from Chicago’s Magnificent Mile
The Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park has seen its fair share of celebrities and international dignitaries stay on its premises. It’s easy to see why any guest, let alone the president, would find the Fairmont to his or her liking: in addition to having fantastic views of the city, the hotel is just two blocks east of the Magnificent Mile, a mile-long stretch of high-end shopping and dining along Michigan Avenue. Several iconic Chicago landmarks are within walking distance of the hotel, including the John Hancock Center, Tribune Tower, and only one block away, Millennium Park. A 10-minute walk east brings you to Navy Pier, a popular spot for its shopping, family-friendly activities, IMAX movie theater, and Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
Many of Chicago’s fine restaurants are just a short walk away from the Fairmont, but some of the city’s best dining is found right onsite at aria restaurant and bar. With stylish furnishings and Asian cuisine, the dining experience at aria was rated highly by Zagat users, and the restaurant was awarded Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence in 2012. In addition, there’s Eno Wine Room, which features more than 300 wine varietals, 35 different types of cheese, and handmade truffles and bars made by local chocolatiers.
The Fairmont's guest rooms are decorated in earthy shades of ivory, tan, and chocolate brown, and the walls are adorned with floral artwork by Warwick Orme. Gold rooms are almost double the size of standard rooms, and they come with perks such as access to the 15th floor’s private lobby and a complimentary continental breakfast.
Chicago's Magnificent Mile: Upscale Boutiques and Historical Architecture
On Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, landmark skyscrapers such as the John Hancock Center and the Wrigley Building tower over the city's liveliest retail corridor. In total, the stretch of high-end real estate houses some 460 stores, ranging from exclusive designers such as Armani and Chanel to beloved brands including Apple, American Girl, and Gap. Double-decker buses and horse-drawn carriages circle the Chicago Water Tower, a limestone icon that survived the Great Chicago Fire, and droves of shoppers navigate eight levels of boutiques and cafés at the nearby Water Tower Place.
Lake Shore Drive runs two blocks east of Michigan Avenue. Travel + Leisure called this stretch “the greatest architecture road on earth” thanks to the superstar skyscrapers lined up along the lakefront. Looming above them all, of course, is the Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower)—the tallest building in North America. Runners, cyclists, and runaway lawn mowers travel the adjoining Lakefront Trail throughout the year.
