Kid-Friendly Hotel 10 Minutes from Disneyland
Just 10 minutes from the Howard Johnson Hotel and Conference Center, you’ll find Disneyland—the only Disney theme park designed under the supervision of Walt himself. Many of the classic rides are still in operation, including the King Arthur Carrousel and the Mad Tea Party’s spinning teacups, but you’ll also find new additions such as Cars Land based on Disney-Pixar’s Cars. You could easily spend an entire day here or check out other nearby parks, such as Knott’s Berry Farm and Universal Studios.
The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to and from Disneyland, and it sits within easy reach of tons of other family-friendly spots, including a slew of casual restaurants. You can start your day with a complimentary hot breakfast buffet at the hotel each morning. Choose from pancakes, breakfast potatoes, eggs, and sausage, as well as coffee and juice. The property’s comfortable accommodations include tower rooms overlooking the city.
Fullerton, California: Lively Music Scene a Short Drive from Theme Parks and Huntington Beach
Fullerton lies about 25 miles southeast of Los Angeles. The city has a rich musical heritage. Leo Fender, whose electric guitars revolutionized rock and roll, grew up on an orange grove and ranch here. In the 1980s, Fullerton was the center of Orange County’s hardcore punk-rock scene and, later, the punk-ska scene that launched the careers of Sublime and No Doubt. There’s still a wealth of live music to be found in the SOCO District, which OC Weekly nicknamed “Bourbon Street West.” Bars, lounges, and cafés are filled with live music offerings ranging from dueling pianos to jazz.
Just a few miles away is Anaheim, home to Disneyland and its cornucopia of magical attractions. If you’d rather trade fairy dust for white sand, head to Huntington Beach, where you'll find 3.5 miles of free-to-the-public beaches ideal for surfing, pickup volleyball games, and browsing the countless stalls hawking flip-flops and seashell-themed wares.
