DC SCORES engages with elementary- and middle-school students at 27 schools across the city through its innovative afterschool program. Combining creative writing, soccer, and service projects, the program encourages youth to express themselves, get fit, and volunteer in their communities. More than 800 students from low-income families participate in the DC SCORES spring soccer leagues, the only leagues of their kind in the city for youth between the ages of 8 and 15. During the spring season, children on a DC SCORES school soccer team run, pass, shoot, and slide for more than 4.5 hours of fun physical activity each week.
To best represent their communities during games, players wear full soccer uniforms in their school's colors. DC SCORES distributes these uniforms—which include team jerseys with matching shorts and socks—free of charge. Practicing and playing intraschool games in uniform helps build school and community pride in players, and also brings teams closer together as players learn to work with one another in order to accomplish team goals.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to help DC SCORES provide soccer uniforms to students in the program. If G-Team members raise $500, then DC SCORES can provide 33 new soccer uniforms to children and teens from low-income families. Each additional $15 raised will provide another new uniform for a DC SCORES student.
