From noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, and Sunday, August 26, beer drinkers will descend on Blob’s Park, home of America’s inaugural Oktoberfest in 1947, for the inaugural Kegs and Corks Fest, a bacchanal celebrating the best brewers and winemakers of the Eastern Seaboard and beyond. During the rain-or-shine tented event, revelers wash down bites of German cuisine and fresh local seafood with free samples of featured beer and wine from breweries such as Heavy Seas and Port City and wineries such as Cove Point and St. Michaels Winery. The accompanying entertainment ranges from a Corvette show to live performances by the Kelly Bell Band, Sweet Leda, and an Appaloosa reunion show.<p>
Kegs and Corks Fest
Kegs and Corks Fest unites connoisseurs for a weekend of celebrating quirky craft brews and vintages. Like stoplights or hair color, the list of brewers may change from year to year, but draws primarily from a roster of strong East Coast alehouses; festival-goers may hoist tankards with representatives from Pennsylvania’s Yards Brewing Company, Virginia’s Old Dominion Brewing Company, or Maryland’s DuClaw Brewing Company. As they roam the festival grounds, they can also sip samples of wine culled from local vineyards and international locales. A plate of brew-friendly foods restores weary patrons before they snap their fingers or repeatedly hug their neighbor to the beat of the fest’s live musicians.
