Choose Between Two Options

  • $139 for a PADI scuba-certification course (a $285 value)
  • $75 for a pool or open-water discovery dive (up to a $150 value)

Discovery dives explore the indoor pools at Water's Edge Aquatic Center in Bensenville, on the University of Illinois at Chicago campus (a $100 value), into open water at Kankakee's Haigh Quarry, or at the Northeastern Illinois University Swimming Pool. All equipment is provided for the discovery dive, but certification students are required to bring their own mask, fins, and snorkel, which can be purchased through Learn Scuba Chicago. PADI certification courses include fundamentals of diving theory, three pool dives at varying Chicago locations with equipment included, a day at the dive park in Kankakee's Haigh Quarry for two open water check-out dives, for which equipment is included, and PADI scuba-certification. Students should contact the shop by email or phone to schedule a time to pick up material and complete paperwork. Participants must register at one of the pools or at Learn Scuba Chicago's new store front at 3521 Lincoln Ave – opening on May 1st – to obtain course materials and complete paperwork. Equipment not included can be purchased at that time.

Learn Scuba Chicago

Despite a close encounter with a hammerhead shark, Learn Scuba Chicago's Captain Bob just keeps on scuba diving. The aquatic expert got an up-close peep of shark teeth on his very first Caribbean dive, yet has scarcely taken his flippers off since. He started Learn Scuba Chicago four years ago in a garage as a grassroots effort to build community. Captain Bob and crew lead diving courses, which range from thrilling dips for beginners to instructor certifications. The calendar is flexible so students can plunge into indoor pools at their own pace at a variety of locations, such as Water's Edge Aquatic Center in Bensenville, the UIC campus, and Northeastern Illinois University campus, with open water dives held at Kankakee's Haigh Quarry.

Bob and his crew are super fun and I loved hanging out with them. In the water they are knowledgeable, patient, clear, and it's obvious safety is #1.

This is the shop for you if you enjoy bad jokes (Capt. Bob makes a lot of those haha!), staff with a patience, and having fun while learning.
