The Mortuary House—a Victorian mansion and funeral parlor that was built in 1872—waits patiently at the dead end of Canal Street to spook passersby as they submerse themselves in its basement within the Cities of the Dead. Tourists meet on St. Charles Avenue before Casper's school-bus driver picks them up and shuttles them to their haunted destination, passing other ghostly sites such as the New Basin Canal, where thousands died during its construction. On the bus, guests listen to stories of Irish and German immigrants that died along the route taken to the Mortuary House. Supernaturalists claim the former funeral parlor houses at least nine actual ghosts, tarrying to settle unfinished business and wait for their good haunting sheets to come out of the dryer.

This adrenaline-pumping tour provides fright-filled fun that is appropriate for visitors 12 and up, and imparts myriad tidbits about New Orleans' specter-graced history.

“Awesome tour! John was so knowledgable about New Orleans; its history, culture, and scenery. Appreciated his candor and insight into the tough topic of Katrina while we toured the diastrously affected areas of town, plus all the fun tid bits like where to find a local voodoo practitioner, great jazz music, and other hole-in-the-wall establishments worth returning to later. Definitely come back!!”

  • “Loved having a New Orleans native lead the tour.”
