Skippers welcome groups aboard one of Pacific Sailing's boats, which float out of Ventura Harbor to tour the scenic waters of the ocean-side village. As wind blows through their hair or clown wigs, passengers sip on alcoholic beverages brought from home. The whale tour extends the adventure to eight hours, during which passengers can get up close to blue and humpback whales as they break the water's surface.
The sailing aficionados behind Pacific Sailing want as many people as possible to experience the thrills of traveling to untouched islands and docking inside giant wine bottles. That's why they charter sailing tours and eschew the cost of boat ownership with a sailing club, granting members access to boats for a certain number of sailing days each year. Pacific Sailing also trains new captains during one-on-one lessons that cover both basic and advanced techniques.
Its fleet, which includes boats up to 34 feet in length, sails up the coast of Ventura Harbor Village and takes 14-mile trips to Channel Islands National Park. Here, five picturesque islands grant sailors views of lush foliage and wildlife such as blue and humpback whales.

“Pacific Sailing is an ideal place to get your sea legs, whether you are a novice or reacquainting yourself with the open waters. Our Captain, Rick, was very informative and let the crew work as a team. Learning the 'ropes' or rather the 'lines' is really about just doing it. Yes, you will most likely learn through trial and error, but the experience is totally worth it. Aside from learning to sail a boat, it's a great place to build your confidence! ”
“Great fun and highly recommended. ”
“This was an awesome adventure! Captin Rick was great! Would do this trip again!”
