Cups provide containment for life-sustaining water, protect the tender nether regions, and allow eavesdropping through walls. Today's Groupon combine these incalculable benefits with the scrumptiousness of cake. For $10, you'll get six cupcakes from Something Sweet just off Wisconsin Avenue in Cleveland Park, an $18 value with tax included.
Atop each of Something Sweet's moist and flavorful cupcakes, a bonanza of buttercream perches with the perfect balance of sweetness and cream. Every day, Something Sweet offers decadent chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with your choice of chocolate or vanilla buttercreams, as well as a red velvet cupcake with the creamy tang of cream-cheese frosting. Other flavors rotate depending on the day and planetary alignment, and include such flavors as chocolate peppermint, peanut-butter cup, chocolate-chip cookie, German chocolate, and snickerdoodle. Check out Something Sweet's weekly menu for a look at its daily offerings. The bakery is open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday–Thursday, until 10:30 p.m. on Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturdays, and until 9 p.m. on Sundays to serve those late-night cravings that happen after waking up from that dream you have where you hear your father finally say "I love you," only to discover he was talking to a cupcake.
Serving cupcakes to your guests cuts down on dirty dishes and eliminates the shame of being the first one to grab a handful of the cake. Instead of making a different cake to suit everyone's tastes, you can get six different flavors for fickle friends, or firmly redefine adulthood with a cupcake-tasting party and a wine pairing for each scrumptious treat. Gone are the obnoxious protestations that a slice of cake is too big. Because cupcakes fit neatly into your hand, you'll be too consumed with the childlike delight of devouring the artful edibles to think about blown diets and foreign entanglements.

These bloggers have a big sweet tooth, and they’re satisfying their cravings at Something Sweet:
- Since I'm a bit of a cupcake snob, I got a half-dozen of the tiny cakes. Our hands-down favorite was a strawberry cupcake. Topped with light pink frosting and flecked with pieces of fruit, the white cake tasted like an actual strawberry. – Julia Beizer, Going Out Gurus
- Ready for something devilishly good? How about Something Sweet? The Washington DC-based confectionery hearkens back to the sweets-dealing shoppes of yesteryear with old-fashioned milkshakes, brownies and sundaes, plus a full toppings bar that will have you rocking like it's 1959. But the crème de la crème? That would be the cupcakes, of course. – Toni Kervina, JuliB
Eighty-five percent of Urbanspooners like Something Sweet, and Yelpers give it three stars:
- Good cupcakes, sweet and simple. Moist, not too dense, with a nice dollop of sweet buttercream frosting. And they're open late (10pm on a recent weeknight) if you need a sugary fix! – Jfelz, Urbanspoon
