The first European explorers set sail with hopes of finding new, exotic spices to placate the palates of epicurious monarchs, but all they found were heaps of inedible gold. Pick up where they left off by broadening your mouth's horizons with today's Groupon to Varro. Choose from the following options:

  • For $17, you get $35 worth of Italian dinner fare and drinks.
  • For $8, you get $16 worth of lunch fare and drinks.
  • For $8, you get $16 worth of brunch fare and drinks, available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Highlighted by the Stranger's resident food tasters, Varro pairs Italian fare and sophisticated cocktails with smooth-sounding lounge music. While guests gather beneath hand-painted murals of Fellini films, sausage-and-beef rigatoni ($13) and organic Painted Hills garlic steak ($22) fill stomachs with protein. Sixteen specialty drinks—from the peach-and-prosecco Bellini ($10) to the rosemary-and-vodka 206 martini ($10)—cue daydreams about being able to moonwalk. The Belly—a vin santo-braised pork belly ($12)—headlocks hunger to the body-rockin' beats of the eatery's live DJs. At lunchtime, Pop's salad gathers crowds of granny smith apples, blood oranges, and pistachios to share ghost stories ($8). Weekend brunchers can enjoy crispy-creamy Nutella popovers ($4/pair) and crespelle fruita del bosco, a crepe with mixed berries and lemon mascarpone ($10).

We were there for brunch (which is awesome) and sat at the bar to make the most of the friendly, fun staff! Definitely try the Sugo Eggs
