The sagacious instructors at Dahn Yoga New Mexico facilitate the betterment of flexibility, strength, and the elusive mind-body connection during morning and evening classes. Dahn-style yoga melds the ancient wisdom of ki-energy training with modern breathing postures to unlock inner peace and sweep up brain clutter caused by the daily stress of always having to find Waldo. Warm-up maneuvers awaken muscles before 30–40 minutes of breathing, stretching, core practice, and meditation—including a signature brain-wave vibration technique that calibrates mental and physical energies. Cool-down exercises ease the body back into quotidian functionality, and a 10-minute teatime invites socialization among participants while bolstering pinkie endurance.

Chronic pain in her neck and lower back brought Melanie St. Georges into her first yoga class. She walked in stressed, tired, and afraid to fail. Despite that fear, she dove into her first class, and as she continued to practice daily, not only did she find herself pain-free, but she felt much more relaxed and balanced. Today, Melanie leads her own team of dedicated instructors in the hopes of making yoga accessible so that others may discover its healing powers. From the lineage of the Barkan Method of hot yoga?a variant of Hatha yoga?their classes aim to strengthen and stretch the entire muscular system while relieving mental stress. Heated air helps the body flush out toxins while deepening stretches and staving off injuries caused by a recent move into Aladdin?s lamp. When they?re not teaching yoga, instructors help clients boost their core strength with hot Pilates sessions. Blissful Spirits also offers donation-based daycare services during select hours.

A zealous exerciser since her teens, Donna Damazyn faithfully Jazzercised for nearly two decades, earning her certification as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer, before she began experimenting with yoga. This new fitness undertaking signaled a sea change in Donna?s life, as she developed a keen sense of awareness and adopted a healthier lifestyle. Donna was so inspired by the mental clarity yoga granted her that she went on to complete a 200-hour yoga-training program and register with Yoga Alliance, which permits her to carry a concealed yoga mat at all times. Upon opening Balanced Life Yoga, Donna joined forces with four other instructors, one of whom has a degree in exercise science and specializes in pain management through Pilates. The team as a whole guides beginners through gentle yoga poses, challenges both body and mind with Pilates exercises, and sorts out chakras on the fritz with meditation techniques.

Twenty-six poses. 90 minutes. 105 degrees. This is what yogis can expect from a hot?or Bikram?yoga class at Bikram Yoga of Albuquerque, a studio that follows the teachings of the practice?s founder, Bikram Choudhury. They keep the studio to such a high temperature in order to help students sweat out toxins and to further their flexibility. As for yoga itself, it helps practitioners achieve a sense of mental and physical well-being that is said to strengthen determination, self-control, faith, concentration, and patience.
