With 23 years of golf-instruction experience under her belt, head instructor Darlene Sommer turns greenhorn golfers into maestros of the greens with a combination of technology and careful instruction. Using video cameras and a 3-D motion-capture system, Sommer collects mountains of crucial data points, pores over the minutiae of stances and swings, examines childhood art projects, and addresses swing flaws with real-time feedback. The lesson, which lasts up to 45 minutes, helps improve swing mechanics and consistency, and it sufficiently stokes muscle memory so newfound club-swinging chops won't be forgotten by morning. To quickly brush-up on pointers and cover up holes in drywall, a printout of the computer data will be available after the session.
