For more than a decade, the dedicated staff members at Summit Fitness Club have strived to set their gym apart from other athletic facilities with their personal approach to fitness. The owners are regularly on site to oversee operations and offer words of encouragement, and general manager Grace Fiorilla—a longtime gym member and an instructor for the past four years—calls upon her personal experiences at the gym to keep guests engaged.
The team cares for youngsters in the childcare area and leads classes ranging from martial arts–inspired BodyCombat sessions to flowing Pilates classes. The renovated space is populated with large-screen plasma TVs and row after row of free weights and cardio equipment, including cross-trainers, elliptical machines, and spinning cycles with computer feedback. In the lounge area—which is decorated with vibrant orange walls and multicolored, 3-D artwork—guests can sip complimentary coffee to help them ease into the day from workouts inadvertently performed while sleepwalking.

Before Jenn and Gary Keil opened Beautiful Mind Strong Body Center, the two worked at a pharmaceutical company. Jenn, a yoga, meditation, and qi gong guru, tended to the employees' health, while Gary, a pharmacist with a PhD in neuropharmacology, applied his expertise to prescription medication and how to best serve his patients. After more than a decade of coordinating activities, the duo decided to find another outlet for their Western and alternative medicine passions. The result was Beautiful Mind Strong Body Center, a facility whose services include everything from hot and vinyasa yoga to therapeutic pain management. To strengthen their guests' mind, the Keils also offer certified positive psychology counseling sessions.
At Power Yoga Works, winner of the Suburban Yoga category in Philadelphia magazine's Best of Philly 2008, certified instructors guide aspiring yogis of all skill levels in muscle-toning and detoxifying classes. The studio's focus centers around the power Vinyasa style, a modality that combines deep-breathing exercises with sequenced sets of flowing poses to help to build strength, increase flexibility, release tension, and purge the mind of distracting heavy-metal guitar riffs. Fledgling flexers receive a proper introduction to the fundamentals during four-week beginners courses that teach body alignment and come with a complimentary yoga mat. The schedule boasts copious classes and meeting times, helping students to salute the egotistical sun seven days a week. A warm, spacious studio allows up to 65 students at a time to stretch and bend without disrupting their neighbors' wingspans.
