A golf cart calmly rolls over the footbridge of a creek, its soft motor interrupted only by the pings of golf balls cutting through the air. At The Bridges at Beresford, the creek babbles alongside all but two of the course's nine holes. In keeping with the aquatic obstacles, two large ponds crowd the action between the second and fourth and the sixth and eighth fairways. Though only one of the four par 4s extends beyond 400 yards, the two par 3s are daunting, measuring 194 yards and 175 yards from the back tees, respectively. Strategically placed bunkers further complicate the terrain, forcing players to dial in their approaches and write SOS whenever they get lost.

Course at a Glance:

  • 9-hole, par 36 course
  • Total length of 3,369 yards from the back tees
  • Four sets of tees per hole

In 1962, founder and director Milton C. Anderson’s original incarnation of The Young Americans was as a show choir that went on to perform on renowned stages, such as the one on The Ed Sullivan Show. As he saw more and more schools cutting funding for their performing arts programs, he began holding workshops for school-age children in 1992. Today, these courses have spread across the country and into Europe, Australia, and Japan.

The Young Americans World Tour Summer Camp has become a fixture in the Omaha area at the Midland University, and earned a feature on The Morning Blend in 2011. During both day and overnight camps, aspiring performers immerse themselves in arts-laden workshops and classes, rather than spending their summer days frying eggs on the sidewalk. The Premier Day Camp gives kids a general overview of the performing arts, while the two overnight camps focus on Hollywood and Broadway performing. All camps culminate in a final performance, during which campers can amaze their family, friends, and imaginary family and friends with their newly honed skills.

Located in 19 cities nationwide, Wine and Canvas commissions accomplished artists to spread the joy of painting during informal painting classes that pair a featured painting with specialty cocktails and wines available for purchase. The mobile studio’s monthly calendar includes themed classes in which instructors expound on the nuances of painting Parisian street lamps, Japanese flowers, or Venetian cityscapes. The master painters—many of them local artists—provide step-by-step instructions while students mimic each stroke and periodically dip their brushes into glasses filled with crimson cabernet. Each of the studio’s various drink-friendly venues boasts a specialty libation selected to incite creativity or conversations with fellow painters. When the artistic frenzy concludes, students return home with a finished masterpiece large enough to conceal any wall safe or mirror portal.

When the Skyforce joined the Continental Basketball Association in 1989, it became the city of Sioux Falls's first-ever professional-sports organization. It wasn't until 1994 that the Skyforce truly established itself as a powerhouse, earning its first playoff berth to set off a string of six consecutive postseason appearances—highlighted by a CBA championship in 1995–96.

Over the next decade, the Skyforce remained a perennial playoff contender, including during a brief stint as part of the International Basketball League in 2001. The team won its second CBA title in 2005–06, then promptly stuffed its trophies and the entire Sioux Falls Arena into a carry-on suitcase for a move to the NBA Developmental League. Since the switch, the Skyforce has helped launch the careers of a dozen NBA players, bringing the organization's total to more than 40.
