The registration process is very inconvenient; you are only allowed to register a week prior to another child dropping off the schedule. How can anyone plan their month(s)? We attended Ocaquatics in Kendall before we moved and they have great systems & processes in place that are convenient for parents. I called BS school SEVERAL times to register my son & was told to call back each time & then was told we would be placed on a wait list for the class/time we requested (& would be 1st for that time slot). When I called back, AGAIN, a week prior to a child dropping off (I did exactly as I was told) the rep told me I was not on such a list and there was no availability for that time. Needless to say I was EXTREMELY frustrated & upset. The mgr apologized and worked with me to find something that would work almost as well as the 1st option. Was told we would have a certain instructor (female) so I introduced my son (& myself) to her before his class so he could start to feel comfortable with her & trust her. When his class began I noticed once he got in the pool that another instructor (male) would be facilitating his class. Personally for myself & my son, the initial meeting is important to help establish trust & become comfortable with the instructor. My son is 3 so I am not allowed in the pool area. So he was going into the pool with a stranger. This was his 1st class, I think the very least the instructor (male) could have done was introduced himself to me (parent) & my son (new student)- 1minute goes a long way to create a positive impression & beginning to establish trust. At the very end of the session my son got water up his nose (which we all know burns pretty badly, esp to a 3yr old) and began to cry. The instructor paid him little or no attention (couldn't hear through glass), didn't go over to him to try to quickly comfort him...NOTHING. Seemed a little insensitive, considering they are dealing with 3yr olds & it was his 1st class (with a stranger). The crying got so bad that he was banging on glass door crying, Mama...mama! So i had to get him. Could have been easily diffused if instructor would have attempted to comfort him a little...done something. We are going to try another instructor to see if the "fit" is better for us. I am sure the instructor (male) is very good at teaching kids to swim & highly qualified, but needs to understand the peripheral stuff can be just as important. Everyone was very nice & accommodating (switched classes, took feedback etc) & it seems they are successful with swimming methods so we will give them another chance.

From Our Editors

Swimming through an indoor heated pool, the instructors at British Swim School teach independent swimming and safety skills to learners aged 3 months and older, adhering to a curriculum devised by British national swimmer Rita Goldberg. The 30-minute one-on-one classes and small-group lessons, containing six or fewer swimmers, elucidate essential techniques for water safety skills. Swimboree (ages 3 months–2 years with parents), Young Minnows (ages 1–2 years with parents), and Minnow classes (ages 3 years and up) teach swimmers basic water-survival skills, such as the back float. Turtle One and Turtle Two classes focus on freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke maneuvers, honing more structured swimming skills in older kiddos. British Swim School's Shark courses enhance stamina and speed and teach even more demanding strokes, such as the butterfly. Certain British Swim School classes require parents to participate in the water or to supervise from the pool deck, and adults-only lessons allow grown-ups to refine their own abilities without the supervision of a toddler.
