Wilderness Trails Zoo, Birch Run

At most zoos, a series of enclosures re-create the animals' natural habitats. At Wilderness Trails Zoo, you're already in the habitat. In a wooded area spanning roughly 56 acres, a mile-long trail winds past enclosures inhabited by more than 200 animals representing 50 species both native and exotic. As visitors walk the trail past ponds and plants, they see many of the animals up close, even stopping to feed goats, deer, ducks, and fish. The zoo is also home to a petting area with rabbits and domestic farm animals, a parakeet encounter, and an outdoor Western-themed reptile sanctuary (open from Father's Day through Labor Day).
