FANTASTIC! A must for any Bostonian or tourist intersted in theatre, architecture, or history. Ellen took us on a captivating tour of the entire theatre answering questions and allowing photographs along the way.

This was a magical experience to be in this theater. The tour guide Nino was awesome. What a treasure this place is and behind the scenes tells some fascinating stories. Highly recommended.

Aurora and Helen (I think that was her name, I’m sorry if it wasn’t!!) were the most awesome tour guides. This building is beautiful and HUGE - there is so much to see and so much history. My daughter went to school for theater and I don’t think her jaw came off the floor once - and having the opportunity to stand on a stage where SO many well known artists have stood is just the coolest!

The staff are not well organized/informed. I bought two tickets on groupon. I got in will call line to retrieve the tickets. A man from the staff insisted I go right to the door and show my phone to the door ticket checker/scanner. My groupon vouchers were scanned as not valid so I had to fight my way back through the crowd to the will call office. My tickets had been printed in advance. So much hollering and screaming in the lobby area by the staff. Speaker Volumes painfully loud and very difficult to hear. Sound volume at the beginning of the show was ear splitting as well.

From Our Editors

The Citi Performing Arts Center's calendar of musicals, operas, rock concerts, dance productions, standup comedians, and classic-film screenings is a culmination of its decades as a Boston historical landmark. Starting out in 1925 as a “movie cathedral,” the theater, then a renovated arts center capable of housing the most ambitiously scaled Broadway productions, morphed into the headquarters of the Boston Ballet. Throughout all its names and incarnations, the venue has retained the grandeur and luster of some long-lost wing of Versailles. In the lobby, dark-veined columns carved from imported marble vault skyward toward an arched ceiling and an enormous crystal chandelier that hangs like a pendulum from its center. In the theater itself, frescoes and intricate filigree surround the golden cupola that looms over a sea of scarlet velvet seats a sight as awe-inspiring to audiences as it is terrifying to first-graders performing their first clarinet recital there.
