What a great tour. It's nice to see a smaller operation vice a large corporate mechanized manufacturer. The tasting offered 4 different types of their product. Emily, our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the prison as well as teaching us about the process of distilling. We thoroughly enjoyed it!!!!!

Great little place to visit. This was my second time touring the facility. Took my two boy's for a little bonding time and they enjoyed it as well.Interesting process and of course, the location is something to talk about.Who wouldn't love to see an old prison.Very good products being made here.I would recommend this place to any Bourbon conisoir.

The tour is always amazing and they go into the history of the Distillery. At the end of the tour is the tasting and every single product they sell is unique and incredible! If you have never been here this is one of those best kept secrets!

Interesting tour of the prison buildings and grounds. Nice small distillery. Bottles are hand bottled, sealed, and labeled. The tasting consisted of 4 small tastes including their Double Oak 1929.

It’s a small operation, still fairly new so there isn’t a lot to the tour. With that being said the staff is great, very informative and fun! We will definitely go back for some events.

From Our Editors

While an abandoned correctional facility might seem like an unusual location to set up a distillery, to the minds behind Southern Grace, it made the perfect sense, and is the only distillery in the country that was once a former prison. Its old brick dormitory, erected in 1929, functions as their barrelhouse, a place where corn whiskey ages to become bourbon. Another, newer dormitory made the perfect spot for their manufacturing facility, with individual cell blocks readily lending themselves to the various stages of production and packaging. Perhaps most importantly, the old prison is uniquely suited to keep out thirsty fans of the distillery's most popular products—including its award-winning Sun Dog 130 moonshine—except, of course, for those enjoying a tour of their operations.
