About Saffron Cafe Cooking Classes

Lauded by tastemakers in publications ranging from the Indianapolis Star and NUVO to Indianapolis Monthly, Saffron Cafe is the place where chef Anas Sentissi conjures the rich stews, kebabs, and paellas of his native Morocco. As diners sip glasses from the wine list and try to decode the messages hidden in the intricate mosaic tiling, chefs marinate chicken, lamb, and fish for kebabs or get cornish-hen tagines simmering in their ceramic pots. In addition to Middle Eastern favorites such as falafel and shawarma gyros, they whip up Mediterranean specialties such as chicken marsala and fettucini alfredo with a twist of their namesake spice.

The beautiful exterior murals were marred by an unkept enclosed patio. The floor and tables needed attention; some window panels were slashed and so rain-spotted it was difficult to see through them. While the interior ambiance was warm and colorful, fixtures and surfaces needed dusting. We were greeted with a smile and promptly seated. Thereafter, service was painfully slow--even though the dining room was relatively empty during most of our visit. Almond Chicken Tangine was piping hot, but relatively bland and overwhelmed by nearly 3/4 cup of raisins. The divinely-scented Lamb Honey Tangine was well-cooked but cloyingly sweet; further, there was little flesh on the bone. We split Tiramisu for dessert--the best part of our meal, but an unexpectedly small portion given the nearly $9 price. Having read impressive reviews, we were somewhat disappointed with the value of our meal. We am uncertain we will return.

quaint little place in a residential area right around the corner from a bustling Mass Ave area. Really good food with great flavors

The restaurant was out of several beverages and some menu items. Our meal was not served until 1.3 hours after we were seated and the restaurant wasn’t full. We were very disappointed in the service and the server offered no additional complimentary appetizers or discounts due to the extended wait. I would not recommend eating here.
