Though she grew up in a family of Torontonian classical musicians, Juliana Pulford's artistic career started in ballet. Yet her passion could not be contained within that single genre's precise movements. On one fateful Sunday, she stumbled on a French translation of Carlos Saura’s Carmen and immediately felt a connection to the music. She threw herself into dance lessons with local teachers, and at age 20 she moved to Spain to train with flamenco masters. Now back in her homeland, she oversees classes for beginner and intermediate dancers and performs in shows of her own at the National Arts Centre and other venues.
