Service was ok. The sever wasn't really all that friendly to us. He didn't ask if we wanted another glass of wine even though our glasses were empty. The food tasted decent but for the price it wasn't worth it. My dinner was mostly potatoes not enough meat and my meal costed $32. My husband's steak was rare when he had asked for medium rare so we had to send it back. Overall it was a ok experience.

If you order before 4, you can order off the lunch menu.

This was my first time at the Blue Grotto and I chose to go there for my birthday as I like to try new places. I had heard good things from friends that had gone there years ago. They were not accommodating, they didn’t have the wine in stock that I chose off their menu, they didn’t have the appetizer in stock I chose from their menu, and the entrees my boyfriend and I selected that they DID have in stock, were less than acceptable. I ordered Lobster Ravioli and there was such a tiny portion of Lobster, it was almost ridiculous. My boyfriend’s steak was less than spectacular. Even though the waiter was nice, I could tell neither he, nor the manager I spoke to after, cared about my experience or the restaurant all together. Next time, I will go to TEN Steak and Sushi, which I know and love! I will also mention that the friends that I spoke to after my birthday that had been there recently, all gave me the same advice, stay away! I would strongly recommend to the staff to advise the customers ahead of time if there are items on the menu that are not available. I would also recommend changing up the menu or switching the way it was cooked because it was lousy!

We had a Groupon and were seated by the kitchen despite there being numerous other open tables. Our waiter only checked on us once during the entire meal and did not even refill our water. We were disappointed, as our friends had liked and recommended the restaurant. The food was ok, but the service was very lacking. I don't think I will return, even if I had another Groupon :(

This is an elegant restaurant The menu choices offer a variety of dishes which are well prepared and presented. My dish was excellent and plentiful. The server went into detail of the dishes we asked about and made it easy to make our choices. This is my favorite Italian restaurant.

Timing is everything, There was a large group in front of us that really tested the kitchen. Only a slight delay. The food was very good

Salad had about a hundred croutons on it and very little dressing. There was only 4 ravioli on the plate. The tenderloin eas supposed to be thinly sliced and was thick tough incurable meat. The 1/2 stuffed lobster tail was very over cooked

From Our Editors

Even after 30 years, the culinary wizards at Blue Grotto are still committed to refining the restaurant’s menu, continually assessing its classic Italian dishes and asking how they can improve them. Rather than dulling meals with premade ingredients, the chefs instead prefer to work from scratch with local, seasonal ingredients. They prepare as much as possible by hand, showing a meticulous attention to detail while forming the gnocchi and stuffing mushroom caps with crabmeat. The restaurant’s alluringly generous menu washes down with an equally expansive wine list composed largely of Italian and Californian wines. Located in historic Federal Hill, Blue Grotto lovingly embraces guests in its pleasant setting, which boasts such comforting touches such as a fireplace and waiters who sing-speak in a gentle baritone.
