In the 1970s, Loi Tran and his family escaped the ravages of the Vietnam War to come to America, and four decades later, they stand as a shining example of the American dream. It was a struggle at first. They didn't speak English, and Loi and his wife had to take whatever jobs they could find. But in 1992, Loi and his wife received a hot-dog cart, and soon they had created their own recipes, far from the traditional style of hot dogs with their infusion of Asian flavors. The new approach was a hit, and soon one cart became four, and soon the four carts became storefronts for Umai Savory Hot Dogs.

oday, all Umai locations offer 20+ signature flavors, such as the Tokyo Signature or Houston Honcho, or you can create your own dog with your own choice of flavors. All meats are made without gluten, MSG, byproducts, or artificial flavors, and all dishes, made fresh to order, come with locally sourced ingredients and fresh-baked buns.
